I'm in Edmonton. There's no denying there's a shit ton of rednecks here but there's also a shit ton of decent and good people. We have an annual diversity celebration event called "Heritage Days" where different cultures have a pavilion for food and dance and it's absolutely massive and a lot of fun, but diversity doesn't necessarily mean "progressive". A lot of diverse communities are just as conservative as rednecks, but most people just focus on the local rednecks and not the international rednecks.

She was voted in because the vote was split between the usual PC party and a party that was even farther on the right.

But I get what you're saying, it's too easy to just pretend everyone in the prairies is a redneck and erase people trying to fight for change. I don't have much hope of the region though to be honest

Yea, my local MP (Laurel Collins, NDP) is actually pretty competent, she does seem to be into it as a career MP. Not sure how successful an MP she can be when it's almost guaranteed that she'll never be a minister.

Unless some kind of proportional representation happens at the federal level.

I live in a rural riding that is always a guaranteed conservative riding as long as the vote isn't split. I voted NDP. I think if Kenney's caucus goes for a recall after his most recent bungling of the pandemic, Notley would likely win if an election were called. Not going to hold any hope though.

Can't see her seeking that position out though. She definitely wants to stay local and take down Kenney.

Probably a good thing. Kenney is probably the worst premier, and that's coming from someone who has Doug Ford as his premier.

Not really much point considering my local candidates when they make no effort. The conservative incumbent sent junior high kids door knocking a few days before the election was called with a card saying how good he is because he was at the grand opening of a bakery in a completely different part of the city 5 years ago. And thats it. No one else has dropped off campaign literature, phoned, etc. I only know who the other candidates are because I checked Elections Canada when the list was finalized. The Liberal candidate was the worst though. She didnt even have a website until this last weekend. Before that a google search would get you her candidate acclimation notice, an obituary that Im hoping is for someone else, and a Twitter account from when she ran for something in 2009 with posts exclusively on October 20 2009. I dont know what she was running for since we didnt have an election for any level that year.

Still unsure if I'll go with ndp or libs. I'll go to vote in about an hour. Local liberal representative is an islamist so finding it difficult if I want to vote someone like that into parliament for the greater good of the liberal party. I've previously voted ndp and I really like Jagmeet.

I mean the big tent parties like the Grits and Tories don't transfer over perfectly but the Tories would be similar to anything from a conservative Dem like Joe Manchin or a moderate Rep like Romney.

There is definitely a farther right wing movement brewing in the Conservative party but who knows whatll happen with it.

Adding to what I said earlier this morning, it really annoys me that none of them made an effort. Without any effort made people will just vote for the CPC incumbent since hes the only familiar name on the ballet, but this is a riding that has been voting NDP provincially and Kenneys unpopularity could tarnish the Conservatives in peoples eyes. This seems like a good riding and a good time for them to at least try a flip.

Currently looks like, coming in from the Atlantic provinces, 26 Liberal, 8 Conservatives.

Not gonna really know much of anything under Quebec and Ontario come in.

This. IIRC the Cons aren't expected to win, but its still possible right now. IIRC everyone was expecting another Lib minority.

The count as of when the BC votes close we have but there's still close to 200 ridings to end.

Unless the Liberals score big in BC, they aren't getting a lot of seats in Saskatchewan or Alberta so... probably not enough seats to get a majority.
