Finally played this game. Definitely overpriced for the content imo. A relatively standard, very easy story mode of Kirby levels with a boss rush attached to it. The updates added since nice puzzle levels for the various dream friends, but it isn't all that substantial. There's also a mode where you play some of the levels as a single enemy/ dream friend, but it's mostly reused content from the main story aside from some dlc characters. There's also some other forms of padding, like tracking the side content on a per friend basis and little collectibles, but it really is just padding if you really like the game.

But it feels like a lot of effort went into the engine and designing all the move sets for the various power ups and dream friends. Seems like a lot of the development effort went into "console level" visuals, the various power up interactions, and the 4 player multiplayer.

So to me, while this game is underwhelming, it makes me hopeful for a sequel. Now that the tech backbone is built, a second Kirby game on the switch lifetime can really focus on expanding the content with more modes and levels. I'm hoping they bring back the dream friends in some way because they are surprisingly fun and varied to control.

Anyway, those are my thoughts about Kirby Star Allies at the height of its relevance.
