Shorts that reach the knee are the epitome of uncool. If you're wearing them you look like either someone who's bought a smart casual wardrobe for the first time and can't stand the thought of trousers, or an 11 year old who doesn't choose their own clothes yet (yes this ill-fitting stretched out t shirt pairs perfectly well with these oversized smelly basketball shorts, this is a great outfit).

EDIT or you could just be playing basketball actually, they're fine in that context.

basketball shorts often go past the middle of the knee. I suppose you don't need them and I don't watch enough basketball to know if that's how they're actually worn in the game itself.

they used to be be worn short, but its actually less functional for them to be longer, but that's considered more fashionable/manly. it's dumb

Depends on how long your legs are and what they look like. If you have decent legs you can go a little shorter than the knee cap. Don't go frat boy short though.

it's different for everyone. Not everyone has the same leg length.

I like wearing a little below. idgaf about ecact measurements. What's more important is that it fits my waist.
