It's still entirely possible that they bring it back, but it's a shitty port with bad netcode, but even if only for couch play I'd love to have some official means of playing the game again outside of busting out my Dreamcast or 360.

In a recent interview at Shacknews, Digital Eclipses Mike Mika shared some updates regarding a return of Marvel vs Capcom 2. According to Mika, both Disney and Capcom have seen the #FREEMVC2 movement across social media. Mika implies that communications between the companies have began to some degree. Heres what he had to say:

I know for a fact from our early conversations that both companies recognize this Theyve seen it, they know. If youre at either one of these companies, I think theres the Im wearing the company hat and also the heres what I want to do while Im here and try to make it happen. I think we have a lot of people in the lets try to make it happen camp, its just a matter of navigating all the red tape.

Ultimately, it comes down to profitable for both companies. We believe that bringing back Marvel vs Capcom 2 is easy money and should happen already, especially with veteran developers like Digital Eclipse at the helm. I really hope so! I never got the chance to play it but it looks so damn fun from the footage I've seen of it.

The fact that Rose is also getting a Ruby Heart costume in SFV might be good news too.

I'd love to see the modding community get their teeth into the game on PC. We'd have HD sprite packs by the end of the year. It would totally transform the game.

They're adding Cyber Akuma as an official skin to SFV soon. He was the final boss in Marvel vs Street Fighter which was the game that came out immediately before MVC1.

EDIT: And Rose is getting a Ruby Heart costume, who was an original MvC2 character.
