After all my time playing Hades I still don't understand the spear. I've no idea what I'm looking for when playing it.

People preach about it being the best so often I guess just need to watch a pro use it lol.

It just seems like a good all around weapon to me. You can poke at enemies from a distance, use the throw for ones that are further away, and the dash strike has a good sweep range. I guess the one draw back is that the attack is relatively slower, but that can be easily mitigated through boons, etc. I think my first clear was with the spear

Spear is really good with the right spin attack buffs. With the right ones it charges almost instantly and can be big enough to hit a whole room

I don't think I've come across them sadly.

Like, I know which aspects and builds for the other weapons suit me, but I haven't found anything for the spear.

I like the Achilles and hidden aspects. Achilles is good for a more aggressive playstyle and works especially well for cast builds, and the hidden aspect has a fantastic special and changes up the game in a way that I just find fun. Usefulness of hammers for the spear are really dependent on which aspect you're using, more so than with other weapons.

For attack hammers, I really like Serrated Point for the triple dash attack, though the decreased dash distance can fuck with your muscle memory. It's probably best on Achilles because you can use the special rush to regain some mobility that this takes away. Flurry Jab is also good because lower attack speed is one of the spear's drawbacks and I don't generally regard the spin attack as worth using unless you have Quick Spin and your aspect has a unique spin, which is fine, since you can't take Flurry Jab with those aspects anyway.

For the special, Exploding Launcher is really good for Zag and Hades, but you can't get it on the other aspects because their specials are different. Charged Skewer is wonderful on the hidden aspect and decent on Zag aspect.

Generally, like I said, I don't consider the spin hammers to be worth taking unless the aspect focuses on the spin. Quick Spin is by far the best spin hammer, Massive Spin isn't too bad, and Flaring spin is pretty much useless except in fringe cases for the hidden aspect.
