Given what Djokovic is doing right now, feels a little unfair

But even without that I've never seen a player like Federer at his peak. Just so, so great to watch.

They're vastly different players. Djokovic is the best returner of all time and plays the best defense of any tennis player ever. Federer is the more creative player and generally had better offensive weapons.

Statistically Djokovic will end up being the greatest of all time, but I think Prime Federer vs. Prime Djokovic is slightly in favor of Fed.

Restricting it to hard courts, prime Federer (I assume 2004-2009 - arguable) won 8/12 slams. Djokovic is (since 2011) on 11/22 hard courts slams. If you take his most dominant 6 year period in that time to keep the comparison equal, it'd be 7/12.

Not looking at other tournaments, but I would give a slight edge to Federer.

^ But Djokovic arguably had the harder field to win those slams.

Like, for example, did Federer ever have a GS win (on hard court or otherwise) as gruelling as Djokovic's Australian Open in 2012? He went 5 hours with Murray, then 6 with Nadal. Federer had a somewhat easier time of it in that 04-09 period.

On the hard court that is the scrabble board, Federer is worth 11 points, while Djokovic clocks in at a magnificent 25 points. However, Federer is 'in his prime' which adds an additional 17 points for the 28 point comeback of the century!

Who did "prime" Federer have to go up against? One-trick pony Roddick? Some other one-hit wonders like Safin and Hewitt?

Djokovic has beaten Nadal at the French Open twice. Something Federer will never do.
