6 weeks is before many women would even know they are pregnant. This bill is basically getting as close as possible to banning abortion without outright banning it.

The cruelty is the point.

This is also, I believe, the bill that encourages citizens to snoop and report their neighbors/family if they get abortions. Nothing totalitarian about that!

A six-week embry doesn't "flop" or anything. It's minuscule. If abortifacient pills were available over-the-counter, an abortion at this stage, and to around nine weeks, would be indistinguishable from a heavy period with bad cramping.

Birth is gross, too.

So are mastectomies.

EDIT: Actually, Gonzales v. Carhart was also ruled on the grounds that abortion was "icky." The Court banned a safe form of rare, medically-necessary abortion that allowed would-be parents to hold the fetus mostly infact --- because it involved a sub-procedure that sounded too gross and they wanted to "protect" women from having to experience that. So while ickiness is apparently uniquely acceptable to rule on regarding female health care, it really oughtn't be.

Science absolutely can measure sentience. For instance, a bundle of cells with no nervous system has zero sentience.

That's a philosophical question that different people will have different answers to. For me, that point is way, way later than six fucking weeks.

You specifically said that science can't measure sentience, which it can. And the objective answers provided by science should inform those philosophical conclusions. At least as far as legislation is concerned.

I go by science and data when forming my decision.

the science and data, provided by the cdc, says the neural tube forms in 4-6 weeks. The nervous system is associated with the ability to feel pain and suffering, and is required for measuring sentience.

GOP officials are stupid if they think this is going to prevent abortions. All it's going to do is force people to drive interstate and barring that, risk their lives in abortion attempts. They don't really care about the life of the mother, though.
