Man fan died as the room shot up at 97 degrees, and his wife was found to be dead of heart failure.
The first thing that struck me about the scene in this case is its utter resemblance to certain phenomena observed by my friend Dr. Elihu Thomson during a recent visit to West Virginia. In both cases we have a very hot summer day, with no apparent cause for unusual heat; an old house full of people who do not seem particularly worried over it; a sudden death from some unknown sourcea stroke or apoplexyin one family; and then the deaths of several others whose condition does not suggest any fatal disease. The only point on which I can see any difference between these two instances lies in the fact that while Mrs. Stetson's body showed absolutely no evidence of decomposition, there were indications of decay among those of her husband and son. This would seem to imply that they had been lying out-of-doors for some time before discovery, whereas Mr. Man's remains were quite fresh when found. But such differences are trivialities beside the more important points of similarity. For example, in both places the bodies seemed much hotter than the surrounding atmosphere, and this may possibly explain why they were so readily recognised despite their exposure.

Gregor sighed and looked out at the cityscape beyond their window. Then he turned back toward her. His face seemed weary and old nowand not from his injuries or lack of sleep. She could tell there were things on his mind she wasn't going to like hearing. "So...I guess you want me to kill him?" he asked.
Sancia nodded slowly.
He studied her for another moment. "Do you think you can handle this? Do you really believe in your vision?"
She swallowed. It felt as if someone had taken a knife to her heart. "Yes," she whispered.
"Then we have a problem." Gregor sat forward. "Because Valeria wants him dead too. And my mother has been working with them all along. They've probably known where I am since last night. Which means they'll be coming after me soon."

They spent some time discussing how best to proceed.
First, they decided, they needed to get away from here. The house was still surrounded by armed guards, who would undoubtedly report any movement within its walls immediately.
It took hours before they found a carriage driver willing to take them through the waterfront district of Tevanne. Once outside the enclave, however, Gregor paid off the man handsomely to keep quiet. For the rest of the journey, they rode in silence.
Finally, when the sun hung low over the horizon, Gregor pulled up to a large warehouse building in the Candiano campo. A pair of young men stood guard at the door, but neither one noticed them as they passed.
The interior was dark, and smelled strongly of fish and mildew. Inside, they waited until the light faded completely before approaching the far wall. There was an iron gate set into it, which opened upon a small stairway leading down belowground.
