One of the single most biggest complaint people had about the first game was Cole's design. That he looked like a generic video game protagonists (bald White dude, Space Marine, etc.). Was a bit of a jump between the two looks? Yeah, kinda, but I liked that they wanted to try for some kind of updated look. So Sucker Punch heard this and decided to give him a more interesting look for the second game and low and behold -- all the nerds whined again because they wanted him to have his generic space marine look back from the first game again despite all the complaints about it. Can't win with these people. At least his design in 2 was a decent-ish middle ground.
