driving through small towns is depressing. walkable blocks are abandoned, storefronts that haven't been touched in decades, no people... but a mile and a half further west you get to the oversized shopping centers featuring the same shitty soulless stores that you literally see in every fuckin town in the country.

I don't understand how the nearest Lowes is always like 1000 ft away from the nearest Home Depot

I was interviewing our city manager about some new restaurants coming to town and this actually came up.

Basically, land developers have a checklist they follow when trying to figure out if it's worth it to bring a business to town, and if Lowe's or Home Depot is already there that's a big flag to developers that they need to look at that area for building because someone else already checked it out and determined it's worth it.

This is why you always see pharmacies across the street from one another and restaurants lined up next to each other. They're being developed in places that are so population dense that they aren't really cutting into each of these profits, It just comes down to people that prefer a particular store or are closer to one or the other.

it wasn't made in faith about some epistemological outcome or whatever else you might use faith for, it was made to vent my frustrations. You can question the degree to which my frustrations actually correspond to reality but that doesn't mean I'm not upset that restaurants are the only people that will hire me.

I am not sure what you were expecting, but it is a paycheck..cheque.
I'm in a folding pattern for now, until tourist season is over, but I plan to branch out a bit myself.

Ya, we sort of have that here...but I think it is only one company.
They had three places, but now two after covid.
The third place was sort of a gamble anyway, in a good year.

Just stay strong and hang in there.
I really don't know what it's like up there right.
But I'm too far away. I'm basically in the middle of NYC, Boston, and Montreal.
With Buffalo and Toronto being outliers...but still somewhat close.

Off topic...it pisses me off with that being said, there is no Hockey Coverage around here.
