Good film, but didn't really need to be a Joker movie at all. Probably would have been better as its own thing.

Also, I don't feel like he does actually become the Joker at any point in the movie.

I feel like the love was a knee jerk reaction to all the controversy. People just assumed anything this controversial, must be good.

Im pretty sure the movie was self aware of that point. He was putting together that Bruce is Batman by the end, which means the events of the movie may not have even happened.

Yeah, in Jokers memory. The entire film was Joker recalling events to his psychiatrist, but that doesnt mean they necessarily took place.

For instance, Joker wasnt there for Bruces parents getting gunned down, yet he was able to recall it. He was also piecing together how that act could create Batman. Thats why he gave the doctor a knowing smile and said you wouldnt get it

There were good parts, and it worked in doing that to some extent. It wasnt agonizingly slow, but it should have been trimmed.

Didnt you notice how parts of the movie dont make any sense? Like they just get kinda dreamy and ethereal? Or like how his relationship with Zazie Beats character was all in his head until he snapped out of it for a moment and we could see things as they were?

The entire movie is one giant mind f***. It may or may not have happened. Which is canonical to the comics, in that Joker doesnt really know what his own origin is.

Again, yall are taking it too literally. Arthur isnt Bruces brother, and Bruce may not even be a child. Joker is just nuts. Theres no telling what was real and what wasnt.

Heck, he may not even be named Arthur.

Joker" ends with the main character, Arthur Fleck, being locked up in a mental institution after executing a man on live TV and inciting violence throughout Gotham. Or has he actually been in there the whole time, telling us and his social worker a story that is a very warped version of the truth?

So, how are we supposed to know what else in the story is real and what's not? On top of all his fantasies, Arthur also stops taking his medication. During one of the scenes with his social worker, we learn that he has seven prescriptions for his condition, and when the city cuts funding, he's forced to go off them. It's after this moment that he starts to gradually transform into the Joker, and it makes it even harder to trust anything he says or does.

The building itself also plays a big role in the ending of the film, and the scenes offer some interesting clues. The building we see in most of the story is dark, dirty, and the walls are an off-white color. This detail is important because there's another version of Arkham that we see a few times in the film as well, one that is clean, bright, and has white walls.

By the end of the movie, even Joker himself doesn't know what's real and what was fake. He tells Murray to call him Joker when he introduces him, because he thinks that's how Murray referred to him when he aired his stand-up clip, but that never happened.

Phoenix was good. Direction was good. Script was meh. The film's attempts at social commentary were pathetic. Overall, it's alright. Deserved neither the praise nor the controversy it received.

Theres tons of clues throughout the entire movie that its all a delusion. None of the movie makes sense at face value. The further off the beam Arthur goes, the more the city itself physically deteriorates (trash building up, people acting strangely), the more the news references super rats running around, and the crazier the scene transitions get (rewatch the scene when he confronts Thomas Wayne, hes literally floating around and stuff).

didnt care much for the Bruce Wayne stuff. and they didnt need to explain how dude was imagining that whole relationship with his neighbor through those flashbacks. thought it was pretty clear from her reaction when she finds him in her apartment.
