I was once over 300 pounds and its not that I was always eating but eating poorly and considering both my jobs were active (valet and teacher) I just ate like shit.

Sometimes its due to mental health. Some people eat when they are depressed, or bored.

Depression dude

People cope in different ways.

The ones who cope by overeating are just more visable.

It's like saying "Why do people drink or take drugs!?"

I think it's because some foods are extremely high in calories. Higher than you would expect. For an example, peanut butter has 180 calories per 2 tablespoons. That's a shit ton when you think of it, not even sugar has that many calories per 2 tablespoons. Not to mention a lot of processed food tends to have more calories.

When I was overweight, I used to eat a lot of Ben & Jerry's ice cream, but a whole pint is approximately 1400 calories give or take. I don't know why, but I never realized that it's that much.

So in short, I believe a lot of people think what they're eating is not as damaging as it actually is.

I think its because of stress. Stress levels are high. Junk food feels good. It just leads to a bad spiral out of control where you essentially get addicted to sugar and junk food and crave it almost like a drug addict or a smoker if you don't get it.

I used to think the same thing until I started looking at the nutrition info of some foods

There's like 2000+ calorie milkshakes out there that you can down in minutes

If you go to Applebee's and get an entree you can easily get like 1500 calories from that alone, and that's just one meal. Eating something similar to that 3x a day is 4500 calories. Not to mention snacks and drinks like soda that will never make you feel full while still making you grow ever more larger

If you cook at home, you probably won't be obese unless you're covering everything in bacon grease, ranch, cheese and sugar

Poor diet, exercise and sleep

Stop eating out everyday. If you're gonna snack at least try something healthy like trail mix. Something I've learned too is that a lot of us are fast eaters mostly because we are watching something while eating. Our stomachs get full faster than you think. If you take your time you'll notice you get full before you finish your plate so don't just rush and eat everything take your time and enjoy your meal if you feel full stop eating even if you still have food in your plate (ever notice that a lot of countries outside the US have smaller portions too?) that way you can avoid feeling bloated and getting a food coma. Also stop drinking soda thats one of the worst things you can put in your body. Drink water! If you're out getting shit faced don't go eating a bunch of crap. Your body is gonna prioritize getting rid of the alchohol first so all that food you ate isn't gonna get digested its gonna turn into fat. And no drinking hard liquor straight is not "healthier" than beer because of less calories.

CDC recommends at least 150mins of exercise every week thats like 30mins of workout for 5 days out of the week. Personally I think 300-360mins is a better number. You burn most fat by lifting. If you can't afford a gym membership then learn some calisthenics. For running I recommend 1 day for distance, another day for sprints and take one day for a nice ass hike or go walk somewhere long distance. Heres a tip too your core is really strong and you can work it out everyday. On those run days if you find yourself done early kill some time by working your core.

Your body burns more calories while asleep than if you're just idling. Make sure you get at least 7hrs of sleep. 1hr before bedtime go ahead and get off the internet and stop watching tv. You need to give your brain a break from all the information you absorb through the net and get it ready to go into sleep mode. Make sure your room is comfortable too. I struggle with sleep the most and what helps me sleep is reading a book 1hr before bed. I know some people like ASMR and ambient noise which is fine just as long as you don't stare at a screen before bed.

Doing this shit is what has helped me lose 14lbs in the last 6 weeks. It fucking sucks because I love drinking and I'm lazy as shit and hate working out. But physical my body feels the best its been in like the last 4yrs and I feel better mentally too but I'm still struggling from alchohol withdrawals
