Then she told me to get off my high horse when I told her that was bullshit and anti vaxxers are causing variants and spreads.

Even showed her the figures from the American South of new hospital admissions for Covid and those stories of people in ventilators in parking lots and being moved hundreds of miles to hospitals that still have space.

She just ignores it or claims they're "in on it " and I need to stop denying 'what's really going on'

it drives me mad.

I feel like not challenging these people is why they think they way they do.

When Covid started proper almost my entire workplace was anti vax, anti mask and ignoring the regulations . If you look back at the original data gathered by the NHS and UK government the amount of people opposed to masks and vaccines was like 66-70% in early 2020. Every regulation and lockdown was met with vast opposition and disdain . There were anti vax riots in the streets and anti vax propaganda in the mail and on TV and the internet 24/7

Now in mid 2021 it's like 80%+ vaccinated.

Due to people like me over the course of a year challenging the idiots that changed from a majority to a vocal minority.

I mean Trumperism and religion spreads by promoting "You're not allowed to challenge or make fun of us" anti vax and racism are exactly the same .

At least that's what I like to tell myself to maintain sanity

dunning-kruger model. Most people are not even half as smart as they think they are. Sometimes all it takes is talking to someone who is actually smart and well read to realize that you pale in comparison. Or the person will lash out and say "You think you're some kind of know it all" or something along those lines

I don't even think its that. I think it's pure ego.

If its just a virus that's out of control and we're fighting it but its hard and everyone has to do their bit, then you are insignificant

If it's a conspiracy and a lie orchestrated to trick YOU but you see through it all because you're do great unlike the sheep.

Well then you're super important and brilliant. You're not irrelevant and insignificant at all. You matter so much all the governments of the world are conspiring to trick you and you're so amazing that you've defeated them all.

I feel the same way about the "I'm part of God's plan" people.

It's a complete ego trip masquerading as skepticism or faith

Such a phenomenon does exist (experts have talked about it), but to claim it was definitely responsible for new variants is dumb. Didn't Delta start in India, with hardly anyone vaccinated at that point, anyway? Most of the variants of concern arose in similar circumstances, with low levels of vaccination at the time.
