It's common knowledge among employees that your boss may stretch the truth about raises or promotions to spare your feelings or to avoid conflict, but have they ever went out of their way to lie to your face about giving you position and such for no apparent reason?

In my case, I worked at a company for 2 years as a temp and near the end of my contract, they were offering to renew my contract so they can hire me directly.

It didn't happen for a variety for reasons- their system hit a snag, it wasn't in their budget, and they had no open positions.

A few months later, a former coworker told they lied about hiring me and it had me really disillusioned. Still don't understand the situation to this day.

Can anyone tell me a story of something similar happening to you?
