FFXIV is, on paper, the greatest MMORPG ever made, however it has almost no real MMORPG elements. The entire big, beautiful game world is completely irrelevant and you never need to interact with any of it except for your quest NPC, which are instantly teleported to from anywhere. The entire playerbase is completely unnecessary and you can solo the entire game aside from dungeons/trials/raids where youre randomly matchmade with players from different servers you dont need to even speak to and will never see again. Its essentially a single player open world Final Fantasy game.

Are there still MMORPGs that actually feel like youre in a digital society where everyone serves a purpose that contributes to the world, everyone actually needs other people to complete tasks and the world is actually inhabited by places and things that need to be traversed with dangerous places that require assistance from others to get through?

Basically what Everquest Online Adventures: Frontiers for PS2 had.

Runescape maybe? But Runescape is so fucking boring.

I do hate how everything is instant teleports now. Warframe made these large open world sections where you have to actually travel to get anywhere, and you can go trapping and fishing, but they're instances limited to 4 man parties.

Struggling to think of another MMORPG that comes close to its insane budget, detail and story quality.

Feels like a missed opportunity for how much they pour into making it a top class production.

Warframe runs into the same problems he complained about with FFXIV.

That being said, everyone should give Warframe a try, it's an amazing game.

Started playing this week, and the absurd parkour nonsense is a blast. And now I have a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater aquamancer waifu.

It's not necessary, but FF14 is the most I've actually interacted with people in a game though.

Especially my gf, she talks to people we met in our FC on Discord voice chat every day

I've been playing it since the closed beta in 2013, currently have almost 7k hours in the game with everything completed, it's not a perfect game, but the devs really do their best to make it as consumer friendly as possible. It's insane the lengths they go to to not overmonetize the game.

EDIT: Also, it's going completely crossplay with all platforms soon, which is going to be amazing for the console side of things.
