The whole point of Naruto is supposed to be that hard work is the most important thing but then the hardest fucking worker in the whole series is basically a trash mob.

believe it!!! with enough hard work you can do anything!!! and then the hardest worker ever loses 1v1 to some dude who never practiced in his life
and thats the coolest thing he ever did, lost a fight

I do agree that the assassination of Rock Lee's character was despicable since he was my favorite character, but Naruto was getting asspull MC power ups literally from the beginning

Naruto used to be an underdog story, but then Shippuden happened and the reason he's good because he's got godlike genes from both of his parents + having a demon fox inside of him. I get it though, Kishi first started making Naruto in his early years, but then became a parent and started fitting the story to make Naruto parents more important.

Another thing that pissed me off about the final war arc is that Kishi constantly has the message "the youth will always surpass the older generation" but yet you have these older dead ninja's pulling off more impressive feats than the curren generation ninjas. But then again when you write a story for 15 years, you're bound to forget what your series was originally about.

Lee worked hard but never amounted to anything.
Tenten was one of the most interesting characters in the entire series but got approximately half of a fight in canon.
Neji just fucking dies.

I don't think Kishi had any idea what to do with the entire group.

Rock Lee is Bruce Lee. Same weight, same birthdate, same surname. This is a Japanese studio telling China, "My dick is bigger than your dick," by invalidating China's most renown martial artist. It's nothing new. We've seen the same thing happen in in the Dragon Ball and Street Fighter series.

Simple hard work was never the most important thing in Naruto. Kekkei Genkai was a huge part of the first series. In the first arc, Haku was so dominant because of his kekkei genkai, Sasuke was the only one who could hope to keep up with him because of the Sharingan. Naruto only became relevant when he awakened the 9 tails. Its not like he just spammed shadow clones and never gave up!!

Thing is aside from Lee not winning the fight he also didn't make Chunin until years later and didn't get with Sakura and didn't learn ninjutsu. >_>

They made a point of showing that Naruto has lifetimes of training because of shadow clones. It's inventive efficient magic one-man workforce you can do anything, which yeah it's magic.

Nope, I'm gay.

I think her weapon master stuff gave her some of the most potential in the series to have interesting and creative fights. Filler stuff actually gave her some fun fights, but...well, it's filler. She also had a fun personality and respectable goals.

It's just that the canon series did flat-out nothing with her. She was a really fun character in what little screentime she did get, it's just that there...wasn't a lot of that. It really sucks.

It is actually quite a joke of an ability in the grand scheme of the show. Kakashi could break it with Chidori in the same arc and when Edo Tensei'd Zabuza's mist(which should be in all water Ninja's arsenals) was deemed of more value.

It's dubbed as long range specialist which is appropriate since she's at garbage at fighting(relative to other Ninja).

They acknowledge she was a bad Ninja in Boruto by having her retire early to run a dying shop.

Edit: Now that I think about it a paper bomb could probably break it. If Naruto and Sasuke didn't already use the transform into the shuriken against Zabuza it could have worked on Haku.

Naruto, as a character, is more about determination than hard work. His strength is supposed to be that he never stops trying, not that he's a self-made man. His lineage and powers don't betray the hard work theme because it was never his theme to begin with, and it definitely wasn't the theme of the series as a whole.

Lee is the "hard work over natural talent" character. Sadly, like the majority of the side characters, he's largely irrelevant for most of the series.

Still one of the most popular minor characters though so obviously at a meta level he is a good character that people like.

Not making chunin makes sense, he has a huge handicap (and he's not particularly smart from what I understand). He probably shouldnt even be a ninja because he can't... you know. Some functionalist logic makes sense, sometimes)

You dont just give a character a happy ending because they have some positive moral quality I think. I might actually be wrong on that, idk literary theory

I think she was canonically supposed to be a solid fighter. It's just that, like almost everyone in the series, Kishi had no idea what to do with her. A lot of characters were presented as competent fighters with cool abilities, but they rarely if ever get to actually show it on screen.

Shonen jump mangs preachs underdog shit all the time but it never stays relevant in the long run. Naruto for example never had much trouble keeping up with or catching to geniuses like neji or Sasukes.

There's theres all the special abilitys and given their usually gifted through genetics which Japan really is obsessed with for some reason.

Usually the main character starts out as being some underdog scrappy until you find out, holy crap, the main character is actually descended from some God-like race of warriors which makes him ultra-powerful. Goku, Yusuke, etc.

Kishi didn't even know what to do with Tenten. Neji's team was designed to have "chinese" aesthetics (I think Neji's fight style is also dervied from a Chinese Martial Art. In the manga, you only see Tenten on top of Temari's fan with a bunch of tools around them. Not even Kishi at the time knew what kind of ninja Tenten would be. The anime essentially was the one who made up what Tenten is now.

In the Naruto only those who gets the most freebies gets to be the most powerful.

Naruto gets all the Bijuu chakra and Rikudo Chakra = surpass Hashirama and Gai who worked hard for their power.

Sasuke gets Rikudo chakra = surpass Hashirama and Gai who worked hard for their powers.

Obito becomes the Jinchuuriki = surpass Hashirama
