So frokie gets one shot with low defenses and hp, but it's faster and actually has not absolutely terrible special stat. Does it one shot with 4x hydropump? Rhyperior has really low special d but it's hp is pretty high.

Rhyperior can step on Froakie (it learns Stomp) and instawin.

he actually does one shot even against max defense rhypherior as long as he is holding any damage boosting item

so as long as he hits hydro he wins

I tanked a team of hacked legendaries with a greninja from ones I spent a good month breeding to perfection, the entire line is broken with protean, and I love it.

Now you are the one forgetting ability: Protean with Grass Knot Changes Froakies type to Grass, giving it stab in addition to the type effectiveness, that then grants the type effectiveness against the non stab electric attack, assuming you survive the first you would still have a full strength second hit on you with super effective stab, if your lucky your second type resistance electric attack hits, but if it does get that far, Froakie gets to hit a third time and there is no chance to retaliate from that.

You would be hitting at half damage, while froakie is hitting at 4x super effective with stab, reduced by 25% from Solid Rock, and Froakie goes first

No way in hell is froakie killing him in 1 hit with a measly 245 (at absolute max with both nature evs and IVS maxed out) special attack, while Rhytherior has a huge 416 attack maxed out. He doesn't even need to use a super effective attack to one shot him.

So we halve your 416 down to 208, but that doesn't get to hit because of Froakies 4X plus stab and the speed advantage: the 4X boosts it to 980 the stab double that to 1960, then the 25% reduction is added bringing it down to 1470.

This is actually true. Items change the battle drastically in certain cases. We probably shouldnt be counting them

It would have to be an item that either negates Froakies speed advantage, or something that would let Rhyperior go first, which would then leave it reliant on a successful attack; that's a coin flip.

Majority of the time, Froakie gets the speed advantage and the Super Effective multiplier, and when it goes to 4X STAB like it does against Rhyperior's dual type, the multiplyer becomes a little broken.

I love protean, but if that is not on a ban list somewhere, I would be surprised.

I was burned out after Ultra Sun, finally caught them all, again, first time since gen 1.

I know there were mons in my bank that I wanted, but I mostly had the ones I wanted on the cartridges, I think.

random moves is a terrible idea, then its down to the move over the pokemon, gyarados would lose to anything if you got splash or tackle or some shit

That's my understanding of the situation after a certain length of time, I have not been in a position where I felt I could afford the extra money just to check if they were still there at this point. No Sword or Shield for me, so no pokemon home or any of that new stuff. (I went with BoTW and Witcher 3 when I did have the opportunity to finally get a switch)

I offloaded all the 100's and legendaries, and most of the special ones I wanted, there were plenty there I made sure were on a cartridge somewhere.

This is also true. Choosing moves to face one specific Pokmon is cool. But not normally how the game works, AFAIK. You usually build a Pokmon based on what would be the most useful in multiple situations, right? Where is this case, were building it to face one specific Pokmon. Choosing its moves before the tournament would have been better. Especially since this isnt their only battle for half of them

I would love to have been in that production meeting:

It's super fast so goes first 99% of the time and has an ability that allows it to transform into the same type as the move it is making, giving it that extra stab on every attack, so opponents that are weak or doubly weak get the multiplier on the multiplier on the multiplier.

Basically I'm going with "who wins most often, not who wins with the absolute counter to the one they happen to be matched with this time that wouldn't ever otherwise get used" a some what arbitrary standard but given there are no specific rules for the selection here it's what I'm going with.

I actually thought of a way That Rhyperior could win, but it involves knowing how the order of operations is calculated in game, and whether it is being applied properly or not: Solid rock misapplied in the order of operations could allow Rhyperior to stall a turn or two. IIRC it was an issue in either Sun/M or Ultra Sun/M where an order of operation issue caused Froakie an issue with Solid Rock (but I could just be outright wrong, it's been a while and it was only ever a minor annoyance)

I was thinking of it as a tournament. In a tournament, you dont get to change your moves between every battle. And dont get to change the ability at all
