8/10

closest thing youll get to the classic hill billy horror type movies like hills have eyes and house of 1000 corpses.

i wasnt too fond of the mold monsters, not as fun to shoot at as zombies. The bosses were lacking as well especially the final boss.

overall super enjoyable

now I have to deal with fake Chris redfield

also I still need to play resident evil 5.

I understand why they had to put a bunch of random monsters in there, but tbqh I felt like the overall experience would have been stronger if it was just you and the family in that house

I thought the molded was pretty dumb, would have been better if the subjects just turned into the classic zombies.

I finished it last night and had a great time. The first half in the mansion and surrounding houses was much better though. That family scared the shit out of me.

By the time youre fully equipped with tons of guns and bombs on the ship and in the salt mine, you just feel like a killing machine. The last boss was too easy as well and didnt even feel like an actual fight.

Im pretty stoked to play through this again though, and to try out RE Village, which looks like a major shift in tone from 7.

I should really get around to playing RE7, had it for the longest time but never got around to playing it myself

Watched some playthroughs on Youtube though while I was working remotely though on a 2nd monitor.

I like this idea.

I really enjoyed the spooky atmosphere the most. I thought the boss fight with the car and the chainsaw fight was pretty dope.

Also, the whole video portion with Lucas was cool too. As a fan of found footage horror, I thought the VHS tapes was a cool way to convey exposition.

I geeked out because it felt like Capcom was trying to either redefine themselves or at least ask what if. It was a nice return to horror and done so well.

In terms of scariness, yeah, nowhere near as scary. HOWEVER! There is one part in Village which was genuinely terrifying. Last time something scared me on such a fundamental was the water part in Amnesia.

Eh

Along the same lines as Ouroboros & Leech Man~

..... except.... you know.... they look like poop a little bit, with a hint of actual rotten corpse. Theyre amazing. If you gotta look at the same enemy over and over again, it may as well be something like that. Its one of the best, most quintessential renditions of a Mook Ive ever seen. The tyrant versions are especially amazing. The fat ones are a bit wanting, I must admit.

Their simplicity is part of what allows them to show up in such high numbers as well, and for the game to look so good even in VR.

They fit well with the environment & the plot.

They look a little bit like Venom.

Im a huge fan of the molded.

good game with great atmosphere, surprisingly decent story (for an RE) and some nice characters. the overall RE aspects fit well into its design.

unfortunately i dont like the forced stealth horror aspects (tho i appreciate that you can slow down the enemies) and when those didnt pop up youre left with mediocre combat against mediocre enemies which takes over the second half of the game (but id still take that over the stealth stuff).

The problem is that they established the Molded aren't just corpses directly being revived. The Mold is just capable of creating the monsters, it simply eats and grows on the corpses. It's why you fight like a hundred of them, but the notes only mention Jack kidnapping about a dozen people.

If I remember right, it's not explained super well in-game, but Chris didn't join Umbrella. He's still a member of the BSAA, he was just called in to consult with them. Blue Umbrella is kind of a weird thing where former members of Umbrella - presumably ones who were somehow unaware the company was making monsters - are trying to make amends for what the company did in the past. They kept the name to take responsibiity.

Ooo nice, 5 has some really fun co-op but its still pretty serviceable as a solo RE game

Lots of fun to be had ala RE4 tbh its just a little more straightforward than that

RE8 definitely follows up with RE7 in a more meaningful way, its actually pretty refreshing to get a game like that thats within the horror genre. Someone here said it best: Capcom just knows how to make a good game thats really fun and a great mix of everything

I have to keep this vague since everything I could say would be a spoiler. Let's just say before you take the elevator, the area before hand makes excellent use of the "nothing is scarier" trope.

Fair enough. That segment didn't do much for me. In fairness, I found the whole thing quite underwhelming. Not as bad as 6, but not good. I only got halfway through a second run before stopping because I was bored.

I liked the molded, it always scares the shit out of me to have one pop out of a wall, but I agree they could have used some variety. There were what, four different kinds? Regular, beefy, crawly, and fat guy. Am I missing any?
