The ONLY good thing about them whining about "cancel culture" is that some are beginning to realize that corporations aren't their friends. They still think they are gonna strike it rich one day and that the upper tax brackets are a problem they have to worry about now, but realizing that companies don't give a shit about them is a nice start.

I dont think fast food should be given a so called "living wage" by force of law but if a fast food company will offer it of their own accord then fine. Or if you dislike how a company pays/treats their works then stop doing business with them. If all the people who whine about "living wages" would stop doing business with the companies that dont offer such then said companies would see major losses and br forced to reconsider. That is how you change things, not expecting some clueless idiots who are in bed with lobbyists make up new laws that screw over basically everyone.

Now that all said, I think itd be good if communities worked together in various ways to make sure no member of the community was without basic necessities. So if someone cannot afford shelter, food or clothing then yes the community should help out.

So basic needs are a privilege, not a right? A community might help an orphaned child.. but they don't "deserve to have it handed to them"?

I love how in these kinds of topics, theres always someone suggesting just get a new job, bro like its something that anyone can do at the snap of a finger.

Not everyone is able to afford higher education, not everyone lives in an area where there are lots of well-paying jobs, not everyone has the time to devote to learning something new, not everyone might be physically fit to work a trade, etc.

These are not 9-5 Monday through Friday jobs, your hours can be all over the place.

Yes some places can be flexible, but even community college or a trade school has a cost in addition to your current living expenses. In a situation where someone is a no show, you might end up missing a class, and there could be an exam that day. That's not an uncommon scenario.

And now you're suggesting to get a second job. When are they going to have time to learn said trade when juggling two jobs?

Not to mention, if this is "the greatest country in the world" what's great about having to work multiple low wage jobs to put food on the table?

These companies can simply pay a living wage so that it's possible to pursue a different field, and tax payers like me (cause we know you aren't one) will no longer need to subsidize multi million dollar corporations by providing food stamps and other welfare benefits to employees they underpay.

Paying a "living wage" though? Depends on what that means. Does every worker have to be able to afford a single apartment, phone, car, insurance, netflix, and still have leftovers for retirement? I doubt that's feasible for America tbqh
