I was playing FF7R with my PS4 copy and the PS5 version downloaded before but now I have an actual PS5 copy.

what? The disk is basically just a licence code to download the game. There is no uninstalling it unless you dont want to play it anymore

On the PS4, the "version" of a game you can download from the PSN store is different than the "version" you'd install from disc. They're not interchangeable and it won't let you have both installed at once.

In fact if I'm not mistaken I believe the Switch is the exact same as well.

Isnt the version on the disk the same as the version in the store, minus patches?

Not 100% sure on your exact situation, but if you press Options when you're on the game icon, it will show you all the different versions you can launch.

but if you dont download them digitally first, since most Switch games are actually contained on the cart and dont need to be installed, you probably cant launch the digital version

I swear I remember having to delete my "install" of Breath of the Wild (really only the patches) to download and install it when I got the digital version.

Also just to confirm the PS5 still has the same fucking nonsense, I inserted the FF7R Intergrade disc and it told me I had to delete and reinstall the whole fucking game

This doesn't sound true... I had Borderlands collection physical and when the digital version was added to PS+ it was a separate download. Had 2 separate icons for the same game, one digital and one that required the disc. Not forced to uninstall anything.

Oh yeah I remember that was a problem when the PS5 first launched. People would install the PS5 version of a game and then delete the PS4 version but then it kept reinstalling the PS4 version whenever you restarted the console or took it out of rest mode.

As far as I'm aware they never actually "fixed" that, they just put in a patch so that you have to manually tell it to copy the data from the disc now

Does that game install differently? I suppose that could be why THAT one specifically works.

If you upgraded FF7R to the PS5 version for free with your PS4 disc you can delete the PS4 version but you have to keep the disc inside to console to play the PS5 version.

But my question was if I would have to delete that installed PS5 version to play from the PS5 disc instead.
