Amazon has some 1 to 5 gallon tanks specifically for Bettas or are you thinking of something larger than that?

Doubt it matters. A large tank is sort of wasted on a single beta though imo

Yeah a large tank is fine. It's kind of one of those misconceptions that it's okay to keep a betta in a bowl or small tank, like a goldfish. Neither is a good situation for the fish, they will likely live a very short life. A larger, filtered, climate controlled tank is going to keep it healthy and you'll get a good long life out of your fish. Male bettas can't be with other male bettas, but you can have other community fish with a single betta and it's generally okay and they aren't aggressive. I'd suggest something like danios, or cherry barbs, hardy, and easy for beginners, small and quick schooling fish.
