All scams are here to stay. They'll likely just find a different or better way of doing it. That's when GPUs will become more available.

Something this stupid should never dictate an entire market like it has.

Yeah, once a series stops being profitable or it's more cost effective for a miner to upgrade at redone prices

Assuming you buy used

Until scalping is stopped, it may never return to normal.

The publicity on how much can be earned fueled people to do this who never would have otherwise, and this generation was different due to the pandemic. So it busted open a new wave.

We're approaching a year since the new video cards and consoles were released and they're still nearly impossible to get without paying scalper prices. I got a 3080 prebuilt before even those prices skyrocketed and have no regrets. Now 3070 prebuilts with similar specs overall are going for more than I paid for mine in December last year. At that time you could get a 3080 machine for around $1800. Good luck with that now.

Fucking chaos.

mid to late 2022. The new factories will be ready early 2022, then it will take time to catch up on all the back orders, then things will normalize.

Crypto has next to nothing to do with the problem, big miners haven't used gpus for mining in a long time. The closest crypto has is someone might scalp an overpriced gpu thinking they can mine it back because they don't understand how their power bill works.

I've heard that too. ASICs or what have you.

Covid also probably has a fair amount to do with it. It's effect manufactured goods all across the board, not just in computer technology.
