What's Amazon's recipe for success? I remember overstock.com being advertised hard as fuck, yet who talks about that now. Who shops there? It's still a thing but no one cares.

I shop there for the choice, the low prices and the delivery speeds.

No matter if I want a tube of suncream or a new laptop, their prices are better than the average brick and mortar shop and everything's delivered the next day. Plus as a prime member, I don't pay delivery and get access to 1000s of hours of TV shows and movies.

Amazon sacrificed human rights to have huge amounts of stock at low prices and fast delivery

No one can compete with that

All of the this.
Make it easy to return/refund some $20 thing, and you'll end up spending $20,000 on other things.

Ok I get why Amazon is king. But why don't other sites follow suit and do the same thing? Are they stupid or something?

They understand the warehousing and logistics have been built up over many years. To try and set up a competing company would cost.billions and wouldn't turn a profit for 10 years +

Overstock.com started in 1999. They should be on Amazon's level by now.

I'm so conflicted. On the one hand I'd rather not support brutal business practices, but Amazon is the best option in terms of shipping and stuff for most items. I don't know that you can really offer that level of service without being somewhat inhumane. Some companies like Chik-fil-a (homophobia problems aside) seem to do it, not sure.

Amazon having a marketplace for private sellers was huge, and eventually when Prime launched and they reinvigorated shipping outlets, that was the death knell for any competition.

Overstock tried to do an auction style feature, but it flopped and it was retired.

It's all about the short term. It's a huge problem with society honestly. We value quick gains over stability.
