...and my opinion of it has only gotten lower. There is no justification in calling this one of the greatest games ever. I dont wanna tell you what you can and can like but this is a seriously bad game. The combat is a bloody mess, the rpg mechanics are shallow, and the story is just not interesting. The scenes of characters talking are just so dull.

Its like they mistook being dull as being mature. The whole wild goose chase structure and the way it starts off in the middle of a search with no real build up to hook you in just a dream sequence especially makes it hard to get hooked. The characters and their interactions are rarely interesting, and rarely feel like I'm making progress.

Also I cant attack villagers but I'm free to kill their livestock (outside the immortal cows), and pets, as well as go into their houses and loot their possessions and they just dont care? Kinda dated for 2015.

This is a opinion. It is not popular. Most people won't even agree with it. But this is still an opinion.

I had the opposite experience. 1st playthrough i thought it was ok. 2nd playthrough a few years later i thought it was good.

I still wouldnt call it the GOAT of the rpg genre tho. Thought it wasnt as good as some of the older crpgs from 90s to early 2000s.

My experience with Crpgs is relatively limited but I definitely prefered The Gothic Games over The Witcher 3, and for a more modern example Kingdom Come deliverance. Planescape Torment while it has weak gameplay.

Kingdom Come Deliverance is low-key great, though.

I loved everything about the Bloody Baron quest. Then some after. Then I get to Skellige (I think) on every play through and fall off immediately. It takes a huge nosedive around then and I can never make it past it.

Dont know why you say low key but I agree it's great :p I mean in comparison to TW3 the combat was much better, it felt more immersive, and it felt like there was just ways to tackle missions and interact with the world around you.

The Bloody Baron himself I like. Hes by far the most interesting character to me so far. Also the notchling was cool. Did not like the goat mission, and yeah I heard the next stretch is much weaker and that worries me in terms of trying to play more.

it's really slow and the gameplay itself is really bland. The writing is decent to great depending on the quest, but the internet really likes to say it's a goat rpg.

Morrowind came out in 2002 and makes The Witcher 3 look like a Hydlide game in comparison. It is better than Oblivion and Skyrim though.

Also the story is boring because its based on a dry fantasy series that was translated from another language. And the writer of said series hates the games, which says a lot.

You could try to explain how they're interesting.... because I dont get. To bring up Kingdom Come Deliverance again, I actually enjoyed the characters and banter in that game.

Morrowind does have a much cooler setting. And yeah I heard that about the author lol.

I got maybe 10 hours into it and I was really enjoying the writing. The sidequest stories were actually more enjoyable than the main quest.

The combat was so bad though I just couldn't continue.

Yeah at first I didnt think the combat was that bad, but the more I play it the worse it feels. Having Gerhalt do these different fancy ass moves based on how far away the enemy is gets old real fast and makes you feel much less in control. Also apparently Gerhalt will automatically switch weapons if I'm not using the one the game wants me to.
