i just look at it more as like a platinum hack n slash game than i look at it as an MGS game. and it's very good at that.

also, kojima didn't fuck up MGSV, Konami did. Poor Kojima.

even if Konami hadnt booted it out the door and left it unfinished, if it had its chapter 3, it would still have the worst series story, a bland and mostly empty open world with little actual stealth arenas, ridiculous overbearing credits after every mission, and a dumb villain, with that poor Sutherland performance which wasnt Konamis idea

Rising is fucking fantastic though, no ideas what yall are on about. And Kojima has nothing to do with a sequel to it not getting made, that ball is in Konamis court and theyve squandered it.

MGSV had the best gameplay in the series that kept on giving you new toys and mechanics to play with. Strapping a balloon to a goat while my helicopter rides in blaring TAAAAAKKE OOOON MEEEE and dudes are shooting at me is an experience I will never have again.

Yeah, the story was basically non existent. I didn't care so much because the gameplay is so good.

mgsv also had repetitive side missions to pad the 2 chapters

The gameplay is good but theres literally only like three proper bases that actually allow you to go whole hog with the best parts of the stealth. Its the same problem MGS4 had, where the game gives you amazing tools but wont give you the right setting to play it in, but even more exacerbated than MGS4 because theres vast stretches of empty desert and hours of grinding in between all of that.

Take MGSVs controls and tools and put them in MGS3 and you have a perfect game. As it stands you have a tedious game at odds with itself, and the story bein bad is a much bigger deal to me.

Its a shame because Ground Zeroes really nails it with the elaborate base and proper tools, but stretching it out into Phantom Pain revealed a lot more weakness in the in-between parts. Im not denying it has high highs, but I think its the most inconsistently fun one of any of them.

In my opinion. I havent replayed MGSV since 2015 and I am starting to wonder if Im being too hard on it, these days. I should refresh myself. But I remember very strongly feeling this way at the time.

I don't remember grinding anything. I just remember playing straight through the game and enjoying my experience. I've seen lots of videos of people using all sorts of different stealth toys. It seems like the game can play however you want it to.

I'm currently replaying MGSV (here and there) and there really isn't any grind if you're just doing the missions. Doing a no kill run and it's a blast.

And even the outposts are a ton of fun to take out. There's a shit ton of ways to go about everything. It's a true sandbox experience, best stealth gameplay ever imo.

You can just use them because they're fun to use :shrug:

If you want to go through the whole game guns blazing or whatever that's up to you. Or you wanna just do CQC. But playing around with all the tools makes the game more fun.

I like how soldiers learn and improve as you progress depending on your play style.

Take on missions, outposts, etc at night, they'll start wearing night vision goggles.

Like to go in and use tranq weapons instead of killing, they'll wear helmets and armor.

Go in guns blazing and they'll be decked out in full body armor that requires heavy weapons or explosives.

That's the beauty of open design though.

Granted, the open worlds were unnecessary since they were too huge and barren, but I loved the sheer amount of options for infiltrating enemy bases. Player freedom, baby.

I disagree. You're given enough side tasks and goals that push you to bring more than just a tranq or a silenced gun. And efficiency is more than enough of a reason to bring different loadouts.

Peace Walker is easily the worst mainline MGS game. The stealth gameplay in it is awful. You can't even crawl or move while hugging walls for fucks sake lol

Yeah initial run was just a grade 2 of the basic assault rifle amd tranq guns and either sniper rifle or rocket launcher. After I beat the game I startes messing around with other stuff and had a lot of fun. This entry really did cardboard box use well.
