Playing The Zodiac Age and made it the 66th floor. The fucking game wans me to backtrack through pain in the ass enemies down multiple flights before I make it the top. Seriously contemplating stopping the playthrough and deleting the game from my Series X.

Cant you just gambit up and use the speed up?

It's tedious even with the speed cheat

The entire game is tedious trash. Stop at ffx, it was the last game made by the og square team. The rest is just trash jrpgs made with great a great brand slapped on the box

I don't know if the Pharos ever bothered me all that much to begin with, but after the first playthrough it definitely ain't shit compared to some of the postgame content, like the Great Crystal and Pharos Subterra. Only thing that ever bothered me about the Pharos was getting all the blocks to fall to get the Muramasa (iirc it has something to do with killing a certain number of finite enemies, and of course due to 12's loot system there's always that chance you'll put a Potion or something instead).

I beat the game today and can conclude Ashe>Balthier>Basch>Fran>Penelo>Van storywise.

Overall I rate the game 7/10

I have to slightly disagree on the placement of Ashe and Balthier. Ashe's primary - arguably only - character arc is the weighty moral dilemma of whether or not she'll end up using the magical equivalent of atomic warfare to smite her enemies. And unless the story ended up taking a very uncharacteristically dark turn, this question is never really in question to the player as you're advancing through the game.

Balthier on the other hand is arguably the true main character. He has the best lines, the most growth and development, the party arguably can't get anywhere without him, and he's ultimately the one who saves the day in the end by steering the Alexander clear of Rabanastre, whereas Ashe's plot relevance pretty much already came to an end at the Pharos (granted Fran helped, but as in most instances in the game she never rises beyond sidekick / copilot status.

I've come to the defense of several video game characters over the years who many people consider annoying - Tidus, Fargoth, etc. But Vaan is truly indefensible. He has all of Tidus' irritating traits and camera-hogging insistence upon himself, yet without a hint of Tidus' charm or character growth. He is at every moment the perfect embodiment of exactly what he is - a soulless automaton shoved into the plot at the last minute by corporate influence - and his presence actively drags down the game. The only time his character shows a hint of personality is during his appearance in **mild spoilers for a different Final Fantasy game** Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2, and even then he's simply doing a halfhearted Balthier impersonation. And somehow he even manages to drag down that game's plot.

Penelo, on the other hand, is benign at worst, and it always bothers me a little that the two of them get lumped together as though they're equal evils.
