The series is like 50+hours from what I know so by watching the movies Ill be saving like 10 hours or more. If I like the movies then Ill consider investing more time into the franchise.

Nah. He's an angel, the true hero of the series but he's cast as the villain because it's presented from the naive perspective of Amuro.

For what it's worth, my top 5 Gundam characters are as follows

The movies are good. Not saying that they aren't. They are missing key plot points that aren't even covered like episode 14. Where Zeon soldiers plant bombs on the Gundam. The sole reason that Armuro is exhausted which the movies never covered.
