"Let me see," you say.

You swing around, Uidre brings the ice prison over, and you see all four of them, from Lil with the cheeseburger shirt to Yanna the Muppet to Ms. Third/Fifth and the Raven lookalike, have four eyes! And they're cracking the ice with brute strength!

"What in the world?!" you say. "They can all do the four-eyed thing?"

You and Uidre put more water on the ice prison and freeze it, but the four of them just keep flexing and breaking the ice!

"Just what is going on with this lot?" you grumble.

You put on as much ice as you can as fast as you can, and then you drive up under the semi-sphere. You carve an Alchemy circle on the bottom to change it from ice to a thick gel. That way they can't break out of it, it will just stretch with them.

You turn back to see the man in white shielding himself from more star bolts from Starfire. He still works to make his way towards the boat while being pelted, but you again pull the boat back from him.

You shoot more bolts from your crossbow and the electricity hits the gold. The gold starts to heat up, making the strands and ribbons start to droop. The man in white dips those in the water to cool them off and make them solid again.

You make one more Spirit diagram and bring out Faraera.

"Rorek the Seventh," he says as he crackles in from thin air. "How may I help you?"

"We need to melt that gold!" you say as you point at the man in white.

"Oh ho~," he says. "I will enjoy this very much!"

You load up a crossbow bolt with fire from Faraera and shoot it at the gold! Faraera causes fire to erupt from the bolt and he heats the gold up even faster than Vindar's lightning!

"Just have to show, don't you, brother?" Vindar says.

The gold melts, drips into the water, and the globs cool off. The man in white brings them out of the water but now they're individual chunks rather than continuous sheets, making them useless to shield against Starfire's attacks. So he uses them for offense and sends them at you! You easily shield against that, but this continues to be a stalemate.

"I guess we have no choice," you say. "Time to take away their best means of escape."

You have Faraera and Vindar provide the fire and lightning to make plasma! It's easier to control it with the Spirits' help as you aim it at the boat.

"Enerug!" you shout.

The laser hits the boat, pierces through and hits the water to make a big splash and sizzle! Then the boat explodes with a *KABOOM!*

"My apologies to the US Coast Guard," you say.

"No!" the man in white shouts. "Damn it!"

"Give up," you say. "We aren't going to let you escape, but neither side can outdo the other."

"That doesn't sound like a reason for us to give up!" Lil the cheeseburger girl says. "That sounds like a reason for you to give up!"

"Actually," Yanna the Muppet says, "giving up sounds kinda nice right now."

"Oh shut up," the Raven lookalike says. "Lil, eat the jelly!"

"It's not jelly!" Lil says. "It's gooey but it's not jelly."

"You sure about that?" the lookalike says.

"Uh..." Lil says. "It's not jelly, it's blue!"

"Raspberry?" the lookalike says.

Lil stares at the gel and starts to drool. She then opens her mouth almost cartoonishly wide and starts biting at the gel! She is eating the gel!

"Are you mad?!" you shout. "That's basically what they put in ice packs!"

"Lil can eat just about anything!" the lookalike says. "And she's always hungry, so she's willing to try anything!"

"Sounds more like the average Tamaranian to me," Starfire says.

You lob a Disorientation spell at the four in the gel.

"Aaah~!" Lil says. "So dizzy...!"

"Surrender now," you say. "Final warning."

"Oh yeah!?" Boot says though he got tossed by dolphin Beast Boy again. "Or what?!"

COIN TOSS

You build up as much mana as you can and focus on Illusion magic. You wave your hands around and draw a dodecagon, aka 12 sided shape, with a gear on each point that link up, and lines connect opposite points to make a 12 sliced pie. All over the slices are runes and inscriptions that are utter nonsense, but you don't think this lot will realize that.

"Convocatio Cosmicus," you say, using Sound magic to give yourself a booming, echoing voice. "Deus Ex Machina...!"

The gears start turning and the pie slices open inwardly, and you create a dark void to fill that space. With a little help from Vindar's lightning, you create a crackling of energy as a large robotic arm reaches out from the void! You make sure it's more steampunk and locomotive than futuristic or even current technology.

The hand touches the water and you create steam with Faraera's fire. From there, a shoulder emerges, then the chest, and you use more fire and lightning to give it fearsome eyes that glow from the abyss before a large head that is very much a knock off of Optimus Prime or Gundam looms over you.

"HOLY CRAP!" the four trapped in gel shout, Lil with her mouth full so it comes out, "HOMY CWAP!"

"Big whoop!" Boot says while he floats in the water.

You have the hand make a fist, and then you raise the arm up to aim at Boot. To make this more legitimate, you line up magic panels with the hand, which gives a great effect like the fist is hardening into diamond. And then you swing the arm and hammer fist Boot into the water with a big splash!

"How do you feel now?" you ask.

"My vote's still for giving up," Yanna says.

"I'm starting to think that's a good call," Ms. Third/Fifth says.

"Quitters!" the Raven lookalike says.

You focus on the man in white now, keeping the panels together in the illusion's fist. You raise the arm and aim it for a punch! The man in white puts all the gold he has in front of him to take the impact, but gold doesn't exactly make for the strongest shield. The punch knocks the man in white to the water, but his hands touch more water to make it into gold, and he floats back up out of the water.

"I'm totally gonna make that thing mine!" he shouts as he uses the gold to fly up.

"I don't think so!" you say.

You swing the arm around to come up for an uppercut! He guards again but the impact is still strong and sends him skyward! He tumbles through the air but then slows and avoids a hard splashdown in the water. You see he's wrapped himself in the gold and clearly used that to brace himself.

The man in white touches more water to create more gold. He's practically printing gold as he has the gold sheets float into the air. You swing another hammer fist, he dodges and the fist makes a big splash in the water! He swoops under the arm riding a golden scooter of sorts, and he reaches out for the illusion!

"Huh?" he says as he of course touches nothing. "This thing isn't real?"

"It's a cosmic being," you say, keeping up the act. "You think your power is enough to affect it?"

But in all seriousness, you thought you'd intimidate him into quitting, but it seems his power to turn anything into gold gives him courage. You can't keep the illusion up forever, just on mana consumption.

You'll just have to do more to make the man in white submit. You add to the illusion and have "Deus Ex Machina" move to bring out a second arm! You put magic constructs into the left hand now, and you use it to aim for him under the right arm. He evades and zips around to thrust his gold ribbons as spears at the head! You create barriers within the head to take the impact, because otherwise the spears were going to pass right through and expose this is all fake.

You have both arms line up, and you have the hands come in. The man in white gets out of the way to avoid being squashed between the hands. The impact makes a shockwave and it rattles the gold. He stabilizes again, you bring the hands apart, and you go to swat him again. You get closer this time, trapping some of the gold between the hands, but he's just on the outside.

You pull the hands apart just enough and grab at him, but he slips away again. To be fair, it's hard for you to judge where he is relative to the arms when you're down here and the fake robot is above you.

You have the hands hover near each other, imagining a circle. You put Vindar's lightning and Faraera's flame in the space between the hands, as if the machine was creating Plasma magic. You can't hit a target as agile as the man in white with the laser, but you work in some Arcane.

"Arcana Stellae," you say, using more echo Sound magic.

The Arcane Stars spread outward from the hands for 10 meters in all directions.

"NEXUS!"

You release the plasma and it fires into one Star to spread out through all the others!

"WHOA!" the man in white shouts as he narrowly avoids the lasers.

But his gold isn't as lucky. A lot of it gets hit, superheated, and even cut up! He grumbles and brings the pieces around, but you hurry to grab at him. He uses the pieces to create a cage around him to brace against the hands and keep them back. You push harder and the gold starts to bend.

"Aurum!" the Raven lookalike shouts. "Just get outta here!"

"What?" the man in white.

"Get out of here!" she shouts. "We're not going to win, so someone has to get away!"

You put more pressure into crushing the gold cage, but "Aurum" drops and lands in the water. You look for him to resurface but he doesn't.

"I think he's going deeper!" Beast Boy says before transforming back into a dolphin.

Dolphin Beast Boy dives down and looks for Aurum.

"What's he getting at, going deeper?" you say. "There's no way he can escape like that."

But then something flies out from the water! It's like a golden torpedo!

"YEAH!" the lookalike shouts. "GO, AURUM!"

Aurum pilots this golden flying cone and takes off across the water at incredible speed!

"Bollocks..." you say.

"We have to make sure these five don't get away," you say.

You put a Binding spell muzzle on Lil so she can't eat any more gel, then keep up the Disorientation spell so the others can't focus on fighting free. Though, Yanna the Muppet doesn't seem all that capable of fighting out of a paper bag at the moment, she's back to a floppy state.

"But what about the one in the gold sleigh?" Starfire asks.

"Robin, Cyborg, come in," the real Raven speaks on her communicator. "We have five of the six, but the other's getting away on a makeshift bobsled made out of gold."

"We only just left the tower again," Cyborg says. "We're not going to be able to catch up to him."

"At this rate, he'll reach the other side of the bay and slip away in the city," you say. "Our concern is keeping the big one contained."

"I'd like to see you try...!" Boot says, groaning a bit.

"Raven," you say, "could you do me the favor of hitting him with your strongest Disorientation spell?"

"Gladly," Raven says.

Raven gathers energy and then aims at Boot.

"Kaleidoscope!" she shouts.

She hits him with the spell and Boot lets out a bit of a wail.

"I'm seeing like, way more than double!" he says.

"Kaleidoscope, huh?" you say. "Nice choice. And with this all done..."

You drop the illusion, making "Deus Ex Machina" disappear.

"Wait," Lil says. "Was that thing not real?"

"You want to let your friend know that so he can come back?" you say sarcastically.

"Where are the things you stole?" Starfire asks the four in the gel.

"Please tell us they're not with the golden goose," Beast Boy says while he swims in his human form.

The four girls snicker.

"That's a yes," Raven says. "I can tell they're not lying."

"We're many things, but we're not liars," the lookalike says.

"What do you even want those stones for?" you ask.

"You new to being a superhero or something?" Boot says as he floats in the water. "Even I'm not dumb enough to spill the beans on this one."

"Let's bring them to shore and sort out where they're being put," you say. "Then we can worry about our modern-day King Midas."

You add more gel to seal the four girls in and Raven adds a round of the kaleidoscope Disorientation spell. You wrap Boot up in gel as well, and attach a chain for Starfire to tow him with.

Robin and Cyborg meet you on the main land, Cyborg having replaced the leg that was turned into gold.

"Did you guys blow up the boat?" Robin asks.

"Reluctantly, but yes," you say.

"Well, we'll owe the Coast Guard on that one," Cyborg says.

"The other one got away with the ore," Raven says.

"His name's Aurum," the lookalike says in a surly way.

"Huh," you say. "His name is 'gold' in Latin."

"We'll have to find special places to put you all," Cyborg says to the metahumans.

"We can split the difference and have a pursuit team," Robin says.

"I'll stick close to our catch here," you say. "They're definitely a handful."

"The big concern is the big guy," Beast Boy says as he points to Boot with a thumb.

"Well," Cyborg says, "part of why we were running late was because I made sure to bring some of these."

Cyborg brings out bulky handcuffs made with his tech.

"Meta cuffs," he explains.

"Alright, hands up," Raven says to them.

Cyborg approaches and opens up one pair. Boot can't do much while affected by the kaleidoscope vision, so he just puts his hands up and Cyborg clamps them on.

"Alright, let's head north for our search," Robin says. "We'll go up the coast first, then sweep eastward."

Robin, Beast Boy and Starfire head off, so that you, Raven and Cyborg take care of the prisoners.

You let the gel away so he can cuff Yanna the Muppet. Yanna's a bit on the skinny side, but the cuffs adjust to clamp down on her tiny, floppy wrists. Lil tries biting at Cyborg but Raven puts a Binding spell muzzle on her. Cyborg puts on the cuffs and Raven removes the muzzle. Ms. Third/Fifth gives herself up much easier, but the lookalike is stubborn.

"What if I just promised to behave?" she asks.

"No," Cyborg says.

"Please?" she asks.

"No," he says, more forcefully.

She flails to keep her arms away from him, but Raven restrains her arms with magic, bringing her hands together so that Cyborg can put the cuffs on the wrists. The lookalike looks very worried something will happen, but nothing you can see does happen.

"The police should be here any second," Cyborg says. "Not sure how many vechiles they'll send."

"Hopefully a couple," you say. "Five might not fit in one."

"Good point," Cyborg says.

The police arrive with a few trucks, actually. Boot gets one on his own because he's so big, and the other two get two each, Yanna and the lookalike in one and Ms. Third/Fifth and Lil in the other.

"Well, three makes it interesting," you say. "We can each accompany one to the prison, hm?"

"I'll follow big, bad Boot," you say as you pull up alongside the first transport.

"I'll go with cheeseburger girl and the normal looking one," Raven says as she goes with the third.

"Well, alright," Cyborg says as the T-Car pulls up. "Guess I'll take this one."

Cyborg goes with the second truck with Yanna the Muppet and Raven's doppelganger in it as the trucks head out on the road. Your convoy makes it to the highway to go south out of Jump City. Though you considered Boot's truck the first because it was on the left, it ends up bringing up the rear. You keep glancing back with your rearview mirrors as you go.

"How far are we going?" you ask in the communicator.

"Not sure, actually," Cyborg says, the T-Car in the middle. "We don't always accompany these transports, but this group's a bunch of wild cards."

"It can't be that far," Raven says. "The villains that get out always seem to make it back to Jump City pretty easily."

Though Raven says that, the caravan continues on for quite some time, and no prison in sight after even 30 minutes. Then your phone rings.

Well, nothing else is happening so you answer your phone.

"Hello?" you say.

"Hi, this is Tiffi Snelpucker."

"Oh, yes, Ms. Snelpucker, hello," you say. "I assume this is about the house."

"Yes," she says. "I've thought about it, and I'm willing to take your million dollar offer."

"You will?"

"Yes."

"Oh, thank you," you say, feeling excitement bubbling up. "Raven! It's Ms. Snelpucker! She accepted my offer on the house!"

"Really?" Raven says as she drops back to be alongside you.

"Yes, she's on the phone right now!" you say.

"Oh, that's great!" Raven says.

"Um, hello?" Ms. Snelpucker says.

"Oh, yes, sorry," you say as you get back on your phone. "I suppose we should arrange a meeting to make it official. I'm on the road right now, not sure when I'll be back in the city. Umm... I say we..."
