I like them but I do feel its outdated. Back in the door action rpgs where overly simple in terms of combat. Now they can do a lot more and its just more fun to me and more visually pleasing.

I still like turn based though.

turn based is fun and games like persona 5 and dragon quest 11 show it can be updated and modernized just fine without removing what makes turn based fun

Turn-based RPGs can definitely feel dated today without some charm to it like pokemon or persona.

But at the same time, more engaging action games can also be really boring if not done well, so I don't think its an issue with the turn-based mechanics.

Turn based in my favorite play style and my favorite game of all time is a turn based RPG.

If I was stupid rich I would create a studio that exclusively makes turn based RPGs.

If I was stupid stupid rich I would hire world-class authors to make the stories and characters.

A variety of art styles.. Though I would wanna really try to nail down a really visually pleasing 16-bit inspired style that uses super detailed artwork in place of sprites. Like imagine Chrono Trigger, but it almost looks entirely like you're watching a high production value Dragon Ball episode from the top down perspective. A sliding camera that transitions cleanly into cut scenes.

I dunno.. Just things I've fantasized about.

It is kind of outdated and boring. Some do it right like P5 and make it a small part of the overall game, which works. Though I did quit like 80 hours in and noticed that it was getting combat heavy near that point. But as someone who use to absolutely love Turn Based games, games like DQ11 make me realize they feel really outdated im modern times. At least for me. I think FF7's Remakes combat was the best change they made. I would of had to force myself through the dungeons if it stayed tirn based.

Easily my favorite genera. Haters gonna hate, but its the way it goes.

I love Western RPGs and Tactical RPGs, but I cant stand real-time. I dont get how a fan of real time could say Turn Based is boring. Real time is a snooze fest.

I'm kinda a half-sign here.

I don't like that system like the default one in RPG Maker apps, where basically everyone chooses a move then everyone acts, with variation in the order but ultimately a one-for-one rule on the turns. I dunno, something about it just feels wrong.

FF7-9 style ATB is good. FFX-2 / Grandia style ATB is even better. FFX-style CTB is king.

They can still work, but the old school basic stuff just doesn't cut it anymore. There need to be tactical elements at the core, not just some gimmicks for a few mobs.
