Agreed, it's actually one of my least favorite 2D Zeldas

It's fun. But OoA is my favorite (is the one I played when I was 12, which I'm sure is just a coincidence).

The newer games ruined it by being bad

It was pretty boss until around Wind Waker / Oracle time.

It's also fun when you don't know where everything is and you don't know the story is 100% vapid nothing.

Just replayed it. Its a great game but definitely dated. The story is barebones and just a reason to do dungeons. Without looking things up on the internet I would have had to wander around the map for hours before finding the one item I need to enter a specific dungeon. The puzzles are all legit though, and the combat is fine for a top-down adventure game from 1991 or whenever. Music is of course incredible.

Nah. It's the second best 2D Zelda (after LA).

A Link Between Worlds is the superior remake really. There's no reason to even play ALttP when ALBW exists other than nostalgia.

Inb4 people saying ALBW is too easy, both games are easy as shit so that's such a weak argument. I don't play these games for the difficulty but the gameplay, which is better in ALBW in every way.

Nah. LTTP was the last challenging Zelda and the dungeons are better. ALBW wasn't very memorable

Nope. Link to the Past is not challenging at all, go back and play it right now and don't go off when you last played it as a child. The dungeons are much better and more interesting in ALBW, the merging onto walls mechanic is very memorable.

Ocarina of Time is the overrated one.

A chore to play, the story is lackluster, and I just didn't care about anything happening.

This, plus the landscape is empty. I was thinking how much better the story and dungeons would be in 2D. Hitting crystal switches in order isn't really any more fun in 3D.

Its a tossup IMO. I dont see how people could consider one to be much higher than the other. Maybe PH has a worse central dungeon, but traveling in it is less frustrating and no flute.

Bro you're actually just being edgy now. Next you're going to say Zelda 1 and 2 aren't hard.

While LTTP would have you lose up to like 4 hearts from Dark World enemies, every Zelda after it had partial heart damage. It's challenging. Get over it.

I played with someone fresh to playing games on controllers (all they ever played primarily was FPSes) and they did fine on finding out where to go. They did spend a while the first time they got into the dark world wondering what to do as a bunny. She did get stuck in some dungeons dying a lot. Save states helped a ton for that...but I told her not to use them because that's not how I played it originally.

Reusing the point after having watched an SO play this game from start to finish (and beating Ganon for her because she died like 10 times in the final dungeon and ten times in the fight not knowing what to do). The game is challenging to people who haven't played many controller games or have ever played the genre of top down dungeon zelda type games. So in that aspect it's pretty challenging. I remember her flipping out whenever I used the hook shot to dodge the fire bat circles lol. But I told her the magic cape could serve the same exact purpose. Some people just pick up items and don't...check to see what they do often.

Regardless it brings to mind that old nintendo games were often played by pairs of people either siblings/friends/couples who were along for the ride and often provided insightful tips. And then those two would disseminate information to others who got stuck, or you could just use nintendo power or call the hotline or watch a video tape.
