I beat most of the harder bosses so far in 1-3 tries. But suddenly the second owl fight and I've been stuck. I've been thinking about deviating from a 100% guide I've been doing by going to fountain palace first, but everything I see someone play I could swear their game looks easier

If I watch a boss fight it seems like the posture is hugely lopsided and mine has been going up for me faster and slower for the bosses until now with quicker recovery too.

Many YouTubers cheat

Theres widespread mods specifically designed to help conceal cheating. If the video youre watching didnt come straight from the PlayStation capture function without any editing, you can go ahead & assume they may have done something funky (this will be reflected in the video tags). As for Owl, dude, thats a tough one.......

You have two options. You can peck at his Health or grin & bear it & learn how to deflect him properly (this will require NUMEROUS deaths to master)

so which is it?

Death or, well..... Death2?
Dont go in to win, go in the fight to learn from mistakes you will make & come back & execute the correct movement.

Is the 2nd fight the one at the top of the tower? Or is that the first?

This is the 2nd fight.

I know that because TC is considering turning tail to Fountainhead.

Basically? I learned you can get in 1 hit at point-blank range to his face before he uses the Super Mikiri or decides to use a golf-swing with Hyper Armor or does the Slash-n-Jump. So. That means you can hit him once at his his face with no danger, (whether he deflects or not is fine because youre just trying to maintain posture) ~ After that, regardless of his attack, youll be dodging to the side/behind him. Generally speaking, dodging to the right side is effective. He has one diagonal slash which can hit you as you dodge to the right side, and he doesnt really use it that often, and you can eventually learn the tell and just dodge left instead. Takes practice.

The other thing youll want to do is deflect his regular 3 or 4 hit combo for massive posture damage, instead of dodging. When you get an opportunity to Counterslash, dont combo, because hell Mikiri.... and instead get off the Counterslash & dodge to the right/(behind him if you can)

Everything else he does at close range, (the firework slash, etc), can be handled by dodging to the right. The firework slash generally takes 2 righthand dodges to get past. After you dodge to the right, its time to combo his back/side. As Im sure youve learned, you cant attack Owl head on or he will practically insta-kill you.

What I do is use Mist Raven to counteract his Run-n-Swing attack which is easily the hardest move he has to dodge. The tell is really easy, and you should be able to recognize it. Simply activate Mist Raven to make up for the weird variable timing of that move. This will also allow you to get off a combo at his back after using it most of the time so its a double win.

After that, youre using the Mikiri Counter on his thrust, jumping over the Firebird when he uses it, and I recommend hitting him with Double Ichimonji & other powerful moves (even a combo) when he does the overhead berserker jump attack instead of simply trying to deflect that attack (you will be tempted to combo and hell kill you, and after you deflect your only option is to dodge, and theres a chance hell combo out of your deflection into a surprise horizontal slash) ~ There are other strategies tho.

1.) Mortal Blade spam.
Your Mortal Blade actually still does massive damage at 0 Emblems. You can bait his jump attack by running away from him and when he jumps, dodge behind him & use Mortal Blade. When you run out of Emblems, you can actually just run away and hit Owl with Mortal Blade as hes running towards you. Hitting him in the face isnt so easy in the Hirata Estates version of him, and works better against the Owl in Ashina Castle..... but baiting his jump attack and attack his backside and then running away again (the ol Hit & Run method) is the easiest tactic to use for a guaranteed quick win against Owl.

2.) There is no 2. This method is basically what I use against Owl in a Charmless playthrough, so it will be very effective during regular play. Besides like, technical stuff like timed use of Akos Sugar & other weird shit you can do (going into the boss with Bestowal & Yasharikus active to get a head start).... that pretty much covers it. The weird thing with Owl in particular is that he demands a perfect fusion of Sekiro & Souls approach (deflecting as well as dodging behind) to really conquer this boss. Hope this helps! Aside from Sword Saint, this is absolutely the hardest fight in the game and unlike Sword Saint, you cant cheat for the majority of the fight. Best of luck, Shinobi

They cheat. Half the time they arent even the ones actually playing the game.

Sometimes they even use a Review Copy
