I just realized that, at my local grocery store, just about nothing has a triple-digit price tag. Pretty much everything is $50 or under. I can't think of anything more expensive than that. I'm only talking about the stores that sell just food, not counting Walmart or similar chains.

Like if you want food items, some expensive kinds of fish can get to over $40/lb, but that's it. One container of vanilla costs about the same. Everything else is pretty inexpensive, and I can't think of any items that clear out an entire paycheck. What expensive items does your grocery store stock?

Spices can be up there.

Per lb probably some specialty cut of meat depending on what your grocery store carries. Although more high end cuts probably won't be carried by chain stores

If we are limiting it to just "food"(my Kroger also sells things to cook the food that costs hundreds of dollars), then alcohol would be the only thing with triple digit price tags. They have wines and liquors that cost over a hundred bucks.

Incompletely forgot about the cheese. You're right. This giant Parmesan Reggiano wheel cost about $350.

Yea if we're just talking highest price tag probably a cheese wheel. Since you can't get a whole pig or cow at a grocery store.

Per pound prices there it'd be either meat or cheese though. Assuming we're counting out alcohol, as not all grocery stores carry it.

If we are talking grocery store I think I can answer that fairly well having worked in one for several years.

Cheese can get stupidly expensive, especially the specialty cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano, which can easily be 10 dollars for a small wedge. Then you have higher beef products like Wagyu. Spices if your getting a small bottle of Saffron that's gonna cost you at least 40-50 dollars.

Vanilla Beans and real vanilla is ridiculously expensive. The different in cost between liquid vanilla and liquid artificial vanilla is something like 7:1 in cost. Specialty items also can get really expensive. So those items for people who are going vegan or dairy/nut free.

Olive Oil can also be very expensive depending on the brand.

A store near me had big prime ribs that were over $100, maybe even pushing $200. Never really looked too closely, I can't eat that much food and even if I could I wouldn't pay that.

Ah yes, I worked in a supermarket for seven years and we were never able to move those inflatables, they're just too damn expensive for the people in our poor ass neighborhood.

I doubt grocery store will be that much, and Moet is pretty standard.

Honestly, I've seen duck sell at a stupid price pre-pound. It was actually wtf level.

True. Very true.

Don't exactly remember it's been a while but I think it was a type of Macallan scotch.

Also this grocery store is kind of cheating. It's a Pavilions in Irvine CA which has a really beefed up alcohol section. They even staff a sommelier in the wine section to answer questions.

It's probably the 12 Year, which I haven't tried yet. It is kinda pricey.
Maybe, if I can get away with it, I'll try it tonight. If I do, it's a cheers to you!!

And ya, Stewarts is charging 5 cents for a freaking paper bag!!!

Ya, they are freaking everywhere right now.
I think the funniest example was the two they had in Corinth back in the day.
Literally two, only several doors down.

Luckily the one closest to me sells shit beer by the case, if I want it, so there is that!!!
They've got one of those walk-in coolers.

I kinda, sorta feel bad for the people that work there though, because the benefits are good...but it seems they treat their people....not so well.

Hehe, I knew a guy whose family provided them with milk, he lived out by Schuylerville, not far from The Farmers Daughter.

But ya, there is a chic that works at the one closest to me....and the closest to the plant and she has been at her wits end....but I think she took the employment issues going on and worked things out in her favor. Good for her though, because she is cool, but I could tell she was getting real close to quiting.
