Is that an actual supply pipe or just a sprinkler head?

Sprinkler system should have a shut-off valve.

Sprinkler system? Those are above ground

This pipe is all the water to my house. I just got it turned off after about an hour of it doing this. The valve switch broke on me when trying to turn it off. Apparently the thing doesnt hold water well and the rust corroded the value to make it easy to break. So Ill have to get a plumber to fix it

You sure that's not a lawn sprinkler mainline? If it is, there should be a separate shut-off for that, just downstream from your water meter.

House water pipe being that shallow would be really weird.

Not in the US, at least.

Assuming that's really a house water line, that must have been put in by the world's worst/laziest plumber.

at least the fix will be cheaper because of easier access and you get to fix your corroded bits.

really weird to have the water main be above ground, anyone can tamper with it.

But why would the town sign off on it? Around here they check everything and make you redo if its not up to code.

Well we will be selling this house soon so we might have to deal with it. And for it not busting? We figured out years ago that those pipes can freeze if it gets too cold. Luckily Im in South Georgia so that isnt that often. When we know we have a freeze coming, we drop feed water throughout the house to keep the pipes from freezing. That tends to work. But yea, its awful

My dad actually called his friend he use to work with before retiring to come look at it. So it might not be bad at all. No I dont live with my parents. My brother and I own this house and my parents moved away after retiring

No idea. Im just glad I didnt fuck my phone up. Im clumsy and I was FaceTiming my Dad so he can look at it with water everywhere while holding it over a 4 foot deep puddle. I was so nervous trying not to drop my phone and cause even more problems for myself. Especially since I dont have a landline

What about possibly burying the line so this wont happen again?

That looks very unlikely. It sticks out far more than you guys think. Its sticking up about a good 2 feet from the ground and its like a square of pipe. I think he said its a bypass pipe which Im not sure what that exactly means. He doesnt know why it wasnt buried though. To top off, that pipe was thin and cheap. I dont know how it got pass inspection
