Quality Assurance

If so, what was it like?

Facing kind of a dilemma here

Sort of? I had to monitor employee phone calls to make sure they were giving good customer service.

May not be what you're looking for though.

No that's different

The position I'm referring to in particular is gaming-related.

i've never been qa myself, but i've certainly befriended tons and worked with them daily

it's basically going through checklists and doing reports. generally you have focuses and basically try your best to repro bugs or check other things with tickets, reproduce it with steps and evidence of how, and send in reports about how to make it happen. it's this, over and over, endlessly.

I have a friend who does gaming QA.

What do you want to know?

If its anything like tech stuff Ive done, be prepared to write detailed bug reports for big problems and have the devs be like yeah this is working as intended or this is a minor issue, it can wait then panic later when they realise on their own its a major issue

you're also the last line of finding any problems before a release of any kind. patches, or new updates with new content, you're the ones who are on it daily for a week before release making sure there are no obvious bugs, or game-breaking bugs, or anything else.

you also really only listen to your lead and make reports. you have no say. the only time you get to shine is if it's a particularly difficult bug to repro, or if it's a very crucial bug that you're tasked to help fix asap.

Well I'm mainly curious how intensive it is. I was recently recommended a QA position because I have a lot of knowledge about the game the position is for, but I'm also going through a recovery phase right now. I'm just now returning to school after being out for almost two years and I won't be full-time in my returning semester. I don't want to pass up the opportunity but I also don't want to risk screwing anything up

It's going to vary by game. Online games are going to be extremely demanding. Offline games not so much for smaller titles.
