It's meant to be a work describing various demons of varying importance in Hell, and telling you (I think) ways to summon them. It's meant to be a pretty detailed work. But I'm still really confused as to what, if anything, inspired it. You would think it was based on an analaysis of the Bible, but the "information" contained inside seems to have been randomly made up. Does anyone know about this book? Has anyone read it? Interesting?

To my understanding, it was concurrent with various manuscripts detailing exorcism from the time. Its not the only one of its kind.

Which is the highest "rank"? I'm not clear on this. Great Duke, President, King, or what?

To my knowledge, some of the books of the Lemegeton were based on Johannes Trithemius Steganographia which was written in 1499. Now, as to what Trithemius based his work off of, we do not know.

We never will know what inspired any of this information as the sources came from centuries ago and many of them seem as credible as passing down urban myths from generation to generation. For all we know, someone from long ago could have made this stuff up for their own amusement but people latched onto it. Someone could have possibly experienced a cognitive error where they saw patterns that didnt exist yet concluded it was demon summoning.
