Tales of Earthsea is awesome ~

most underrated Miyazaki film would arguably be Grave of the Fireflies. I feel hes become either disenchanted and/or essentially completed his portfolio. Maybe just gotten old! Haha. His current output reminds me a lot of Tarantino lol who keeps saying hes done, this that and that the other. Which would be fine by me. Forcing someone to create these magical, painstaking works of art would be wrong. Nothing wrong with a one-hit-wonder, or not essentially syndicating yourself, etc

The Cat Returns is great, has a lot more humor than usual for Ghibli

Grave of the Fireflies is not underrated. It's one of the most famous war movies ever made! And it's not Miyazaki. Takahata directed that one.

Only Yesterday, though, really is underrated. I also like Ocean Waves; although it's nothing spectacular, it's got a nice vibe.

The Cat Returns was a lot of fun.

While not nearly as good, I was glad to see the Cat Baron's history fleshed out in Whisper of the Heart as well. I never imagined there was such a backstory behind the painting on the wall of the lady cat.

I liked The Tale of Princess Kaguya.

maybe it's because I played Okami not too long before I watched it, but it was cool knowing some of the mythology and seeing how it was depicted.

Porco Rosso was better than it had any right to be.

I think it's easy to take one look at the character and write the movie off, but it has a lot of depth. It feels like a tribute to 1940s film noir; though its setting is a bit earlier. I also appreciated the nods to silent animation and to the hyperbolic movie posters of the mid 20th century.

If you're watching the English dub, Rosso is played by Michael Keaton. The man went from Batman to pigman to Birdman. <_<

Another Ocean Waves fan, eh? Nice! Don't come across many of those. I remember having to watch a weird bootleg version years and years ago. It's probably more accessible online these days.

3 of my top 5 Ghibli films are Takahata. Only Yesterday is #1. I love the way it uses colour in the memory sequences

Haha, literally the only Ghibli film Im not enamored with. Feels like it moves too slow not enough happens and I never grow close to the characters.

Kaguya is awesome. It had a big impact on me when I first saw it.
