I have to do some server patching and maintenance tomorrow. Nothing hardware, all software so I can do all this remotely from home. The hours I put in tomorrow can be use to be traded in for the hours during my work week. FUCK YEAH.

Work for a company that likes you.

I literally left at 3pm today after coming in at 10am
Why? Because I could

Tho tbh once school starts it'll be very strict 8:45am-3:15pm schedule with an hour break
I'll still be late and leave early and take two hours for lunch

It's not the best, but tbf most companies would just make him work the weekend as a salaried employee lol

I work some hours tomorrow. I exchange those work hours for next week Friday to get off early. My weekend starts much earlier next week.

Either you have something to do next Fri, in which case you should just be able to use vacation time or you have nothing to do and it doesn't matter that you get off early

Either way, it just sounds like your company propaganda brainwashing you

Options for the manager that needs to get something done:
  • Option 1: We need this done ASAP so I need you to come in Saturday. We arent paying you extra and you cant flex any time because you are salaried.
  • Option 2: We need this done ASAP so I need you to come in Saturday. We arent paying you extra but you can flex your time to have some time off next week.

People are literally arguing that the second option isnt a good thing.

CE going to CE.

Tbf, it's just server patching. If he's patching Windows boxes, he's getting paid to sit on his ass at home playing vidja and drinking while occasionally looking at a progress bar. Then he gets off early the following Friday. It's better treatment than a lot of companies provide.

Though companies really need to get into the habit of patching during work hours or week nights to ensure possible issues are found early. Patching on Saturday only to find out Monday morning it broke something is terrible to deal with.

Meanwhile when I want to run a patch:
>inform principal of the date and time
>he sends out a schoolwide email including to students
>parents praise the notice given to kids in case they're intending to be in study hall
>teachers are amazed I give such notice

Just another day of taking the system offline for two hours for the keks

That's not how that works.

Like, if I was sick half a day, I could make up those hours over the weekend instead of using PTO. Sometimes I do this

Sure...but why would you be happy about that? Why would it make you feel appreciated?

Hell...why do you have to use PTO when you're sick? You should have separate sick/vacation days

The bar is set so low for employee treatment its insane

At my company it's all 1 time bucket. 13 days a year for new employees which is basically the standard 2 weeks and 3 sick days.

So yes, being able to make it up rather than have to use sick time is an option I like to have.

I'd much rather have it all in one bucket. When you have sick days, you have to drag your ass to the doctor and get a note. If you have a virus, there's no point in going to the doctor cause they can't treat it like a bacterial infection. You just have to ride it out but because I need a note for a sick day, I have to waste half my day at the doctor for jack shit when I could be resting. Instead just take a PTO day and stay home. Plus most companies that have it all in one bucket give you more PTO to factor in sick days.

Not to mention that PTO days are paid out to you if you leave the company where as sick days aren't.

Ah well no notes is a benefit. Everywhere I've worked they required them to make sure you aren't using sick days as vacation.

How do they count towards retirement?
