On the 360 (don't know if the Xbox One or Series systems have this) you could either buy stuff with money or Microsoft Points (effectively the same thing.) Always found it weird honestly, anyone else remember this? Follow-up question, who remembers all the "tutorials" on how to get free Microsoft Points?

I mean, Nintendo does the same thing. You earn coins on purchases that essentially work like money on the e-shop. Microsoft having the point system was just another way for parents to fund their accounts without having to tie their credit cards to the account.

Microsoft points are how I've had gamepass free since last summer. It's free gaming for a minute or two out of your day a few days a week. If you have an Xbox, it's the Microsoft Rewards app.

There was that brief window of extremely lucrative options for online gaming without actually having to shell out money. There was the secret free xbox live link, making regional accounts to get all the free shit from region-specific promos, those shitty online surveys, and, if you had been playing long enough, Microsoft just handed you free shit sometimes. They mailed me a disc for the final gui update, which became a free way to play Halo: Reach, which became a free download for Halo: Reach.

Then there were the giveaways on the 360 board. Good times.
