Yeah it's very average and a bit disappointing. Still not as bad as RE Vendetta.

RE doesn't translate well into cinema.

Honestly it should be a very easy transition. Since the series started out as just a homage to zombie movies anyway.

Maybe back then. But not since most movies are action cgi circuses.

But the thing is, at that point, what would differentiate it from any other zombie movie?

RE's signature is in the emotions it gives the player. Tension, dread, foreboding. Those can't be captured as easily in a non-interactive media.

I won't even post spoiler bars but the plot is very generic and can be seen a gigaparsec away.

It can be.
My argument is more particularly for Resident Evil.

RE's biggest problem in creating stakes is that it loves its characters too much. Chris, Leon, Claire, Jill. They'll never die.

(RE7/8 spoilers) Only recently have they dabbled with the idea in Ethan, and that nickel is now spent.

No denying that the movies (live action and CGI animated) have been failures. Really a Resident Evil film just needs to keep things simple.

The issue is that the games happen at the player's pace. Movies have to move things along but I agree the dread could be recreated if Capcom wasn't too worried about boring an audience.

They would have to use a new character to establish any kind of stakes.

And one that isn't played by the director's wife.

Yup, only a small few things came out of nowhere or were a surprise.

Resident Evil 3 could easily be a well done movie

Nope. Which is kind of refreshing because she's been in most canon Leon related RE material. I guess you could say she has a replacement, but she isn't nearly as good or fleshed out.

The Resident Evil movies are pretty forgettable. I've seen every single one and can't remember details of any of them specifically.

I'll likely watch this one tonight while I'm drawing monsters.

Really. The characters were stick figures.

On a semi related note, I don't like that Wesker never made a cameo in either remakes or the movies taking place before his death in RE5.
