Now that all ages can get a vaccine, I still know people my age that have gotten Covid more than once and say "my body fought it off so I'm good". I'm not sure how reliable that is but it should mean something right?

I have been in that boat for a while. I even had a black fungus infection that spread from my mouth,to my sinus and behind my left eye. I got lucky.(this was April '21)

Edit: I just got my first shot this week. I thought I was going to die Xmas '19. I didn't qualify for free vaccination until recently in my county.

Didnt a large group of people from Boston get kicked off a plane for not wearing a mask. Wonder how many of them were vaccinated.

They need to do a lot better with outreach, particularly with minority communities. I know a lot of my POC friends and coworkers are distrustful of the vaccine. Availability is also an important issue in some places.
Unfortunately; however, a lot of states just arent going to put in the effort and a lot of people especially white conservatives dont seem persuadable at all, due to the politicization of every aspect of the response to COVID-19 and general lack of trust. Were probably going to get hit hard again in fall and winter.

When I heard you can get the Delta variant just by walking by Covid positive person, I put the mask back on even with my fully vaccinated status.

That could happen with any version of covid though...

Delta is more contagious all around, but that possibility doesn't apply exclusively to delta.

I have a buddy of mine who's not getting it because "it's not certified by the FDA" and "I don't get a flu shot every either either". He's not an out and out antivax as he's gotten the other ones as far as I know, but it's still extremely frustrating to hear him say this. I imagine he won't having his daughter get the shot when they open it up to her agegroup either.

Looking at the numbers broken down by age group makes me feel a little better.

Fully vaccinated:

• % of total population: 47.6
• % of population 12 or older: 55.6
• % of population 18 or older: 58.4
• $ of population 65 or older: 78.7

Definitely still need to keep pushing the numbers up somehow, but at least we've got over half of adults fully vaccinated now. Hopefully the total population continues to rise to at least 55%. Israel saw a lot of consecutive days with no new cases and they're at about 57%. They're getting new case reports now, though, possibly due to the new variant, but not sure.

I mean that was the point of social distancing. Maybe it was only if they coughed or sneezed, I don't know the exact details, but being too close to someone with covid carried the risk of catching it before the delta variant popped up.

It's sad that the top of that graph is 60%, not 100%. I'm curious how much lower it would be if it only counted fully vaccinated people and not "at least one dose"

The study provides evidence that immunity triggered by SARS-CoV-2 infection will be extraordinarily long-lasting. Adding to the good news, the implications are that vaccines will have the same durable effect, says Menno van Zelm, an immunologist at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.

Between the existing vaccinations and the antibodies generated from people having had covid already, I suspect we'll be at herd immunity soon if we're not already. Covid cases are still on the decline even with most of the country open since it got warmer outside a few months ago.

I get that but a case in England was found to be someone just walking by another person and boom that other person got Covid. No talking to each other, nothing but a walk by and an infection. Maybe it was always like that but it kind of blew my mind how fast the infection can happen.

That is a bit terrifying. I think with earlier variants the risk of catching in that instance was basically small enough to be non existent.

Except that unvaccinated people like that are petri dishes for developing variants that are harder or impossible to treat. We wouldn't have Delta variant if they actually bothered to do the bare minimum for themselves and others all pandemic.
