I admit that I believed a Switch Pro was gonna happen. There was enough in that Bloomberg report that seemed legit and it matched up with public reports from Samsung. Hell reports for both Playstation and Xbox ended up panning out. But yet the only stuff that was right ended up being the stuff that could be verified off the assembly lines. The same exact thing happened a couple of years ago with the Switch revision with the better battery.

When it comes to games it gets even worse. Star Fox Grand Prix. Mother 3 being re-released. Zelda remasters for the 35th anniversary. Eventually they end up being wrong. The funny consequence of this is that people end up getting angry at Nintendo for not delivering on something they haven't promised.

I wonder if the kids who said they had Uncles at Nintendo ended up choosing that as a career.

Nintendo is creative, but they will always be style over substance. The switch isn't as strong as the ps4/xbox one and the joycons have issues which were never addressed.

It really seems like 2020/2021 have become "Who can make the most outlandish claim that people will still believe"?

Like I've been saying the same shit happened with the spring Apple Event. People were somehow convinced that Apple was going to unveil a new 10.2" iPad already (you know, only half a year after unveiling the 8th gen one) and a new iPad Mini (I'll admit, I was a little hopeful for that one), and new AirPods, and literally none of that happened.

Yeah, I don't think the OLED model is anything to write home about, but people getting angry at Nintendo over it because it's not the Pro model that they were led to believe was coming need to redirect their vitriol towards the right people.

Halo on Switch would be nice. I would also like Metroid Prime on Switch. I've only played Hunters.

It might be that the shortages completely shat on the Switch Pro timeline.

Otherwise yeah, rumors aren't really worth listening to nowadays, outside of a very few sources.

OLED is pretty nice though, I'm interested in seeing it in person.

To some extent I think the disappointment would have come anyway. The rising interest and hope in Pro rumors came about from increasing dissatisfaction with Switch performance. "Leaks" certainly fanned the flames, bit if I didn't know this model was coming I would still be disappointed because it rules out a more powerful switch in the next year most likely, and probably until the next gen.

I mean the price of the theoretical Switch Pro would've sent people into a tailspin as well.

I honestly assumed it would've only been like $100 USD more, but seeing what Nintendo actually incorporated with a $50 price increase then the theoretical Switch Pro would've been like, a $500 machine - the same price as the disc PS5.

Yeah I'm actually worried about what Nintendo will charge for a Switch Pro or the Switch 2 after this news. For reference these are the Australian prices

Switch Lite - $329
OG Switch - $469
Xbox Series S - $499
Switch OLED - $540
PS5 Digital - $599
PS5/Xbox Series X - $750

Makes me wonder if they'll go right for that PS5 digital price range.

The 4k switch DLSS actually has several credible leakers though, including bloomberg.

I think at this point, it won't even be advertised as a pro model, but an actual successor. 5 years is a bit late for a pro model, and A nvidia ampere with DLSS is next generation anyway. The current switch models would be supported for a few more years though.

the same way they addressed Joy Con Drift: fuck off, no it doesnt

OLED has significant advantages over LCD, not the same as whatever trash they use as analog sticks.

That said I don't trust Nintendo to buy the highest tier OLED panels that Samsung/LG sells so whatever.

There could be more models coming. 3DS slammed out a bunch in the last year or so. And tbh the Switch lifespan is probably going to be a long one with these sales.

5 years in isn't too bad for a system they keep running for 7 or 8 years imo.

Thing is there would have to be at least one year between the OLED and a Pro model. So that's closer to 6 years than 5. Seems way too late for a Pro model. In comparison it would be like if the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X released in 2019.

Nintendo are already angling the OLED with a premium price point too so where would a Pro model fit? Another $50 bump for $399 doesn't seem to be big enough considering the gap between the standard and OLED and $450 seems pretty crazy. I think any future models will be focused on budget models.

I think the dream is dead.
