I got it at launch and adored it. 70+ hours in and I haven't beaten it, but I just picked it back up again. Game is marvelous for what it sets out to do and if you vibe with it, the experience is certainly something else.

We need the Kojima's cut to get the full experiences

History will look favourably upon Death Stranding. It didn't live up to the hype (an impossible task) and people are still bitter about that.

It's funny. I actually bought it at launch but didn't fire it up until this year. I think February?

Altogether, I liked it. It promised something different, and definitely delivered. Kojima's fingerprints are most certainly all over it, and in some places that's to the game's detriment, but I've played enough of his games to know what to expect, in a way.

But I probably won't be going back to it any time soon.

I enjoyed it a lot. Really relaxing game to play. I recognize that it's not gonna be everyone's cup of tea, though.

Gamers are weird in their tastes, I've found. Likes and dislikes are almost always in extremes, and there's a tendency for mass group think. Like, you'll probably never see a non-horror movie fan going "Imagine paying to see Hereditary in the theatre" or a non-western fan saying "Imagine reading Blood Meridian." They'll just typically recognize it's not for them, but gamers have this weird tendency to just lash out at things they don't like and call it shit regardless of its actual quality.

I imagine it's the investment of time that leads to the sour grapes mentality. Music is near instantaneous. A movie is a scant two hours. A book can be tackled in the off hours of a week.

But video games almost always take some level of commitment on the time scale, and no one will ever be able to play them all. So to allay the FOMO, we concoct excuses to justify our not getting in on that particular investment.

And that's what leads to people pigeonholing themselves in certain genres. They know what type of game gives them the most value (for whatever definition they have in their heads of what "value" means) and stick to that, limiting their experimentation otherwise.
