IIRC Rare being shit for years did kill Rare for a while but they've found some success again with Sea of Thieves like you said. Wish they'd go back and make Banjo-Threeie next.

Using the same studio name twenty years later doesn't mean it wasn't killed. Is there even anyone from the original studio still on staff at this point? Though it can be argued it was in its death throes during the acquisition.

Nintendo (almost) killed Rare by sabotaging Star Fox and throwing the games they were allowed to make under the bus to promote their own inferior titles, then sold the comatose body to Microsoft.

tbf, how many studios keep the same people on for decades? At that length most people are done with the industry entirely or want to work on something different.

In a normal case, prior talent trains new talent so there is a consistent legacy, but nearly everyone leaving will just mean its a different team with the same name.

Rare still has a lot of old staff there. Namely, Gregg Mayles. They're still a talented studio currently going through a Renaissance, thanks to Microsoft unshackling them from Kinect Sports games or whatever.

I don't think they ever will try it. After Nuts & Bolts, they really had nothing more to say with the series. Best bet is another studios comprised of fans from the original two games.

it was garbage, but the sequel is one of the best platformers in a while at least. Impossible Lair is genuinely fantastic

I agree that the sequel is a fantastic platfotmer. The original is just... okay IMO. Felt like the team was working out some rust and kinks, but they did hit their stride in the sequel.
