Wow. This sucks. Never broke a bone in my body before. Any advice for the next month?

Got my walking boot and taping all set for now. At least it's the left foot and I can still drive.

Which toe? My left big toe got severally fractured at work about 4 years ago. I had to go under for surgery and had a metal pin stuck all the way through past the main knuckle. It was brutal being awake when they literally had to yank that pin out. Could of heard my yell in the parking lot I'm sure.

Naproxen is a over counter non narcotic muscle relaxer and pain reliever that helped me. I had 300 hydrocodone 7.5s but I tried not to take any unless it got unbearable.

P.s, when I was about 14 my right toe was cut in half from falling out of a tree onto a broken glass jar. Tendon ripped about 3 days after surgery and it retracted to far to replace. Hehe yeah.

Elevation,no alcohol, tabacco, anything else for a few weeks that can contribute to inflammation. Eat healthy meals and get some good sleep.If you have a job where you have fmla,get a doctor's note and use that time off.

Nothing worse than having an injury heal improperly. I know

I'll assume you have to try and keep pressure off of it.

break the opposite toe on your other foot to balance it out and help take your mind off the pain of a broken toe.

alternatively, sacrifice an old pair of shoes and cut out a section around the broken toe so you can still wear them cushion the toe.

Lol,cant tell if your joking but since I broke my left toe and now have two big toes that I cant curl, my right ankle that I broke hasn't been giving me as much problems from over compensating on one leg. Plus my calves are always the same size again.

Also Major Pain reference would work here too.

There is not much you can do about it...what you are doing is about it.

I've done that twice....it sucks.
The second time it was a middle toe and some of the damage transferred into my foot itself.

Hey, I broke my toe last year. Major advice not to walk too much in that boot, it's probably better to just let it heal enough that you can keep the toes wrapped and put on some loose crocs or something.

I say this because walking in that stupid boot actually messed up my foot, and I had to relearn how to orient it properly.

Geez, I hope you recover from that ASAP.

Ive broken at least four or five bones and I can honestly say that breaking my big toe is the worst pain Ive ever felt in my entire life. Toes and fingers have a lot of nerves, so it really hurts.

When I broke my toe, my back was already broken (rough month) and I was already on pain meds, so they literally just told me good luck. In my case, the bone didnt heal right (I went to an urgent care walk-in clinic for it) and the big toe on my right foot doesnt bend now. Its like the bones fused together or maybe theres a bone spur in the joint? Either way, its a constant source of stress and fear for me because if I hurt it again its going to be serious.

Sigh. If only medical care was affordable

You will probably be fine, though, because it sounds like you got into an ER. I didnt have a cast or anything like that. This was probably nine years ago and it still hasnt healed any.

Good advice. My boot actually started to change the natural resting position of the smaller bones and caused more discomfort. I started just putting it on when I had to leave the house since the rod was sticking out of the toe, and I didn't want to bump into anything. I did that once and collapsed in pain. Dr even said dont wear it unless you have too.
