Like, it benefits nobody to clog up the left lane including the selfish fucking jackass clogging it up. Let the speeders pass, more likely they'll get tagged for a ticket if there's a cop ahead and you're not forcing people to pass on the right which is even more dangerous.

Plain and simple guys. Can't believe there's so much arguing on here.

When I ride up to the mountains I try to keep it at about 80 in a 70 zone. This is usually the flow of the right lane, which is fine for a quieter country road. It's annoying when I try to hang in the left for a while and someone comes up behind me at 90, but I just move the hell over and let them go. It's common sense for your own safety and the safety of others. If you block someone like that in and piss them off they'll be wreckless looking for an opening, and probably go wide open 100+ through that opening when they get it. Doesn't it sound safer to let them go?

Use your brain if you want to ensure maximum safety for everybody on the road. If we would stop catering to the god damn morons we could have unlimited speed in the left lane like parts of germany.

Quite a few, we really don't know how to drive out here all things considered as shown in this topic. Speeding is one thing but actively causing traffic is the worst thing you can do. I'm not saying I'm a perfect driver or anything but people really don't know how to drive.

Nope. If you're cruising (not passing) in the left lane on a highway, you're breaking the law. You could be going 65 in a 65, 70 in a 65, 60 in a 65, whatever. If you're in the left lane and you aren't passing anyone, you're breaking the law.

Additionally, it should concern you because someone coming up behind you is going to be more dangerous when you piss them off and force them to make more aggressive lane changes and dangerous passes, only to accidentally clip your bumper and pit maneuver you to your death.

Or, you could just change lanes and let the guy pass. Your choice.

Do I defend the asshole who makes reckless passes and dangerous lane changes? Not one bit. But it's a situation that you certainly could prevent by simply putting away whatever fake pride it is you gain by pretending you're in the right (which, again, you're not).

if you are going 99mph in the left lane with nobody in the right lane, and someone is going 101 behind you, you are the slower traffic and it is your responsibility to get over to the right lane.

Thats not the law thats an idea that people come up with. Its so annoying

I'm not talking about the law, I'm talking about basic English.

Slower implies you are going slower than the other person. Therefore, you are the slower traffic and must move over to the right. Like I said, you can be going 99 in the left lane, but if someone behind you is doing 101, you are, by the literal definition of the word, the slower traffic, and per the signs, are required to move out of the left lane.

If youre passing in the left lane at the speed limit and some maniac behind you is speeding and also trying to pass someone, they are in the wrong and not you.

That's a different story -- if you are actively passing someone else in the left lane, then you are allowed time to complete your pass and are therefore in the right. It seems the general tone of this topic is driving in the left lane while not passing.

I believe he means while you are actively passing another car in the right lane. You can complete your pass rather than being expected to move over immediately when there's a car like right next to you.

You absolutely will get pulled over in Florida for driving 70 (the posted speed limit) in the left lane. Speed limits are bullshit and most people know it. They're a combination of political, social, and bureaucracatic constraints that imperfectly describe the reality of driving. The site that keeps getting linked is actually either outdated or incorrect because it is now illegal to cruise in the left lane.

If the cops pull you over for going 5 over, you're unlikely to get a ticket. If you're going more than 5 over, you can give them or the judge a good excuse and they might cut you a break.
If the cops pull you over for obstructing traffic, you WILL get a ticket and the no excuse you can use.

Honestly I go on the road and wonder why I see so many insane drivers out there and think "this can't be normal, right? this is just some bad luck or something, not everyone is this bad at driving and following the rules!" -- then i come to this topic and see shit like this and suddenly it all makes sense
