Israel has a great vaccination rate. Unvaccinated people are driving the delta variant infection rate, but they are also infecting a number of vaccinated people. Shutdowns will be necessary in Israel despite the fact that they have a high vaccination rate.

This will happen in the US as well, but the troglodytes won't allow for another shutdown. We're fucked.

The issue is they put the ones who can't get it at risk, cause a higher chance for it to spread and mutate which could fuck everyone over. It isn't just a "They're only risking their own lives, so fuck 'em" sadly.

I heard this too, an actual health professional said so in an interview

Aren't vaccinated people mostly only getting minor or no symptoms? As long as hospitalizations stay low, there isn't going to be anymore shut downs in the near future. The general public is over Covid and it would have to take hospitals all over being overloaded and deaths much worse than Covid's peak in the US for another shutdown to occur.

If you choose not to get a safe, free, vaccine you shouldnt get any attention or help when you get sick. I would support hospitals turning these people away.

Last I checked, about 10% of current COVID-19 cases were confirmed delta variant.

Current vaccines protect against it, but a booster will likely be needed to better fight it. We already knew boosters were going to be necessary.

Biggest concern is if the MAGAs continue to be afraid of the needle poke. If a variant emerges beyond the delta variant which resists our current vaccines to a significant degree then I'd say yes, we'd have to go back to mask mandates and social distancing.

However, it's unlikely we'd have enough places nationwide do such a thing again, and despite only being 4% of the world's population, over 20% of covid-19 deaths occurred here.

The vaccines are less effective against the Delta variant. Which means, (disclaimer: I am using example numbers here, not accurate ones; so the only thing you should take from this post is the general concept, not the exact figures) if the vaccine protected 98% of people against the original variant, it might only protect 90% of people against the Delta variant. Should be stressed that it's still much, much better than having no protection.

Though the mRNA vaccines, at least, should be trivial to adapt to the new variants, so I dunno why they haven't already done so...

The "Indian variant" that people talked about prior to the greek-letter names was actually a collective group of three variants, one of which is Delta aka B.1.617.2 (the others are Kappa aka B.1.617.1, and one that didn't get a greek name - B.1.617.3).
