If all that greenhouse gas escapes from the permafrost, it could literally cause cataclysmic environmental shifts.

So yeah, Id say its pretty serious.

This is blatantly false, please stop trying to pass yourself off as intelligent.

I am totally against the world being destroyed by the ridiculous amount of air pollution and greed but why the need to exaggerate?

detected only on the ground in Siberia's Sakha Republic, while the region's air temperature was a toasty 86 F (30 C).

This is like saying "it was 150F in LA today!! (On the pavement)"

There's no need to exaggerate, the normal June high in Sakha is 70-75F and they're currently getting 10+ days of 90F+ temps. It is extremely warm in Sakha this summer, but other areas it's not -- it's in the teens and 20s in northern AK and Greenland

This article makes it sound like you could go swim across the N pole right now

right. I love penquins

"
One of the most common mistakes is that penguins live in the Arctic. In fact, this penguin-free region is home to another charismatic birdthe Atlantic puffin. These colorful birds dress up their black and white plumage with an orange, parrot-like beak and feet.
Like penguins, puffins are excellent swimmers and diversequipped with waterproof feathers and an ability to drink seawaterand breed in large colonies along the shore. (See the real story behind the amazing photo of a puffin gorging on fish.)

The flooding isn't even the worst. The change in water salinity and temperatures will change the ocean currents, some might even cease to exist, leading to completely chaotic weather patterns where once was stability. Ocean currents also impact the air currents, such as jet streams and the polar vortex. There are so many factors playing a role, that "just" coast lines being flooded is one of the least problems

Aren't there tropical penguins that live around the equator?

Because if the ground is that hot it's 100% melting the permafrost at a stupid high pace.
