The series couldve been like Star Wars, Harry Potter, lord of the rings, Star Trek etc with a HUGE cult following and making billions of merchandise and extended media alone.

Now literally no one gives a fuck about GOT

but Ive never seen a show die so fast because of a horrible ending. Its honestly fucking amazing. You have to TRY to ruin a show that had such a big following.

i wouldnt hire D&D to work at McDonalds

I think people think that the internet noise about the ending makes things bigger than it actually is.
People will complain about the ending of that one show but still go on to do things like listen to Imagine Dragons.

Yeah season 4 was the last good season and even that had missteps. D&D said they really only wanted to do Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice & Fire SPOILERS the Red Wedding and it shows.

Final season was absolute trash, just like everything else after 4

I watched the entire show in the span of like 9 days. Never seen such in insanely fast drop in quality. It gave me whiplash

But 8 was still the worst by a lot

i complain. Book 4 and 5 were hardly in the show. Dorne was....an abomination that was aborted one week after conception. No fAegon and Golden Company storyline. No Northern Rebellion storyline. No LSH :(

i think movies 1 and 2 were good, but everything after that was lame. magic was just green and red lightning. there was no magic, just dbz like energy blasts. there was nothing really magical after movie 3 in the movies. and each movie just had a darker filter applied to it. everyone dressed like muggles. no style. no substance.

If anything you're downplaying the success of GoT. The reason nobody is talking about GoT (which is false, the discussion is just lower than historical highs) is because there's no new content. Disney pushes new Star Wars content on the regular so there's always new things to discuss.

But I was mostly addressing your comment of the money on the table. Star Wars was only ever lucrative for the producers. Most everyone else involved only did average. And that's across all three eras. And in that context GoT matches Star Wars.

People already massively successful prior to casting notwithstanding (Samuel, Liam)

but it was 6 movies that sucked that spanned what, 4 or 5 directors?

it's the source material that is difficult and expensive to create in live action. the real fun magic stuff would take too much money so they just do power beams. and change the world, like allow the wizards to just fly around. like..wtf

I was hooked until halfway through the 2nd to last season in GOT. I could tell the snarkiness of Tyrion was gone, I guess since they stopped referencing the book, and the characters just became dull. It had such potential, and was engrossing with great graphics, but they got lazy and wanted to move on to another project.

What's funny is if they dug their heels in and really delivered an amazing ending, then they would be able to do whatever project they want for the next 10+ years. Now they are bums.

I blame the unknown star wars movies that got canceled. They wanted to quickly wrap up GoT and start work on their star War trilogy. HBO even said they could do more seasons to properly end the show but those D and D guys said no, we want to be done

But then everyone hated the ending and the star wars trilogy got canceled. So in the end they fucked up all around

GRRM deserves more blame than he gets for the way things turned out, but no one ever blames him

Youre just wrong and clearly havent read the series. Like the other guy said, books 4 & 5 were hardly in the show and the bits that made it in were butchered anyway. Not to mention, the sample chapters from Winds lay a nice blueprint for what would come.

HBO should have handed the reins to other showrunners once D&D gave up completely (around season 4).

except this has been proven false multiple times and they weren't approached until after they decided they wanted to hurry GoT because they saw GRRM wasn't going to write and there was no point in stalling it out any further since people were going to hate anything they did.
