the steep difficulty curve (which never really gets easy) and the backtracking aside, its a wonderful, wonderful game.

I kind of enjoyed the whole thing of having to memorize landmarks to find your way around.

I mean sure you could use the compass, but there are better charms to use

The one big criticism I have for the game is that before you unlock the stag network, getting around can be really tedious just due to the sheer size of the map.

Team Cherry definitely took a risk with how they designed the map system for HK. But I think it was a good choice that encourages exploration and forces the player to make a choice between knowing where they are at all times on the map or having another precious charm notch.

honestly after 30-40 hours its pretty easy to know where you are, that was around when i decided to take off wayward compass cause i realized i didnt need it anymore

If you can get to a region, you're supposed to be there. The game is really nonlinear. There are obviously areas that are more difficult than others, but there's nothing stopping you from doing the "endgame" areas first if you have the skill for it.

I only have 2 criticisms of an otherwise perfect game:

1. The fact that you react to damage and the enemies dont is unacceptable, it should always be both or neither.

2. By the time you get the Dream Gate you dont need it anymore, and having it couldve made the game SO much less tedious.

My second playthrough, I found whole sections of the map I didn't know were there the first time. It's worth going over every area with a fine tooth comb, there's so much depth to the world-building and it feels super rewarding

Nope. My memory is awful and Im 25 hrs in. Compass stays notched. And I got like 7 notches open.
