Anyway to make that happen besides scouring ebay for dirty moldy books? All of these classic books seem to be long out of print. Is there some site with pdf scans or something?

There's no good ending?

From my vague memory, there are a few goodish endings, but one of the main plot threads established early on is that trying to get to a paradise planet. But during normal play, you can't get there in any way, choice will lead you to the page with that ending.

However, if you just scan the pages, there is a page that goes: Woah, how the heck did you get here? It's impossible to get here without cheating. Well whatever, congratulations on breaking the rules. Welcome to paradise.

I remember one that had an ending where you are on a boat at sea with a bad guy and a girl. The bad guy ties am anchor to you while the girl cries. Your character tells her everything will be fine and then you are pushed into the water. And you sink and think "I wonder how long I can hold my breath ". Even as a kid I remember being surprised such a dark ending was in one of those books. Many of the CYOA endings involved death. But that particular one always stood out to me

It's alright. It's exactly like the books, except you have an inventory. There's a danger meter that increases and also determines some "pages" you can go to.

Fun for one campaign, zero replayability.

Not quite the same, but I do love me some visual novels/ dating sims. Especially ones like Amagami where you don't just choose what you do each period but who you're with, and you get dialogue choices or the conversation mini game frequently.

That sounds amazing wish I was able to read it.

Also on topic f these books I remember one about motorbiking. I don't think I was able to beat it but I rmemeber really enjoying that one. Sad to hear most of them are out of print though. These would be really cool in this day and age.

Yeah, there are some branching paths, but they all converge. And when we got the best ending on our first try, there's not much incentive to play again.
